My son is nearly five and has possible as. It was a year ago when he got his first bike with stableizers. It took many months to teach him to pedal he tended to pedal backwards and took along while to and a lot of explaining to get him to pedal forwards. He has now decided that he doesn't need his stableizers and took them off himself. Since doing so he's started pedaling backwards again and found myself back to explaining to him to do it forwards. He that adiment hes going to do it he's thrown the stableizers in the bin.

oops to my grammar and spelling issues. I'm usually better than that. I was distracted by my son gnawing on a plastic hanger.

I am new to this group and am going to ask that my son be evaluated for Autism or autistic traits or SOMEthing. My son is turned 5 last December and though he's had a tricycle or bicycle for a while - he can't seem to get it either. He also peddles backwards and doesn't seem to understand that it's forward and gets extremely frustrated. We will play with it all the time but he is always having to be pushed to get going because he can't get the pedal thing. He does fine on a scooter too. I have learned a lot of things I didn't know in the past day or so about Autism. Is this bicycle problem typical for Autism? Does anyone else have input on this??

my son was 5 when truly learned to ride his bike. we had him ride in circles because he loved to on back patio we told him when you master that we will take traing wheels off. well in about a month he could do it pretty good. my bryce is stubborn and we find creative ways to get to understand with out having major meltdowns. hope this helps

my son is 8 and still can't ride a bike properly but he does very well on a scooter. He does seem to be slower at developing coordination skills and i am sure he will get there as will your son. i took his feet and placed them on the pedals and physically demonstrated the idea and he seemed to learn better that way rahter than verbally explaining. hope this helps.
