Seeing a child psychiatrist next month..what can I expect?

My son was diagnosed with ADHD when he was in grade 1 but I have always felt there is also something else wrong. I spoke with our family physician who referred him to a child psychiatrist. My gut feeling from what I have researched is that he also has Aspergers. (he "flaps" his arms, lines things up, obsessives with objects such as tires and birds, he has difficulty making and keeping friends) It breaks my heart because he is never invited to birthday parties and everyone always has an excuse why they can't come to his.

The psychiatrist sent out forms to me and the school a few months ago (these were the exact same ones I filled out 2 years ago)

Can anyone tell me what I can expect at this 2 hour appointment? Will they be able to make a diagnosis with that appointment?

My son is 6 years old and was diagnosed with ADHD in Janurary and we also believe something else maybe going on so we are also seeing a child psychiatrist on June 6th. I was told it could take more than 1 appointment to make a diagnosed.

They might be able to give you a diagnose then they did with my son who is almost five when we saw his psychiatrist on July 16 of this year. I always new that something was wrong. Like your son he lines things up, obsessive with objects, he has never been invited to a birthday party, he is in pre-k this year and went to preschool the last two years. He has a hard time making and keeping friends. Most don't want to play with him because he is different. I breaks my heart to see him struggle with daily actitives. I hate it when people in pulbic places will stare at him or us. He doesn't understand why. Call and ask them if you could fax those papers to the dr before your appointment so he will have a chance to look them over first. Thats what we did. So when we went he gave us a diagnoses. Good luck with everything and hang in there. No matter what happenes God wouldn't give us anything that we can't handle.
