We were denied Medicaid last week for our son and now I don't know what to do. Our insurance will not cover his ABA because Texas has an opt-out clause which is, excuse my launguage, bullshit. There are no centers around her that will do it probono and we can in no way afford to pay out of pocket. The cheapest I have found is 800 a month!!! That is our rent and with only one person working it is impossible to come up with that kind of money. My son has improved alot with ECI and home ABA therapy, but he needs the professional ABA therapy badly. He also needs sensory therapy as his sensory needs have gotten so much more complex. He finally tried a new food the other day only to projectle vomit it right back up. I am frustrated beyond frustration and I know my son is too. He is trying so hard and he is so smart, but I can't get the help he needs. I am trying to do the best I can for him and it is so upsetting when everywhere you turn, no one is willing to help you or you don't qualify for help. I have prayed until my knees hurt, begged people for help, yes, begged, reached out to my husband's work to change their policy so my son can get the help he needs, I have even written the damn President! I just do not understand how something as common as Autism that effects so many people cannot be covered my insurance or have more resources available to help families in my situation.

Sorry, just had to vent a little. I go insane trying to figure out ways to get the help my son needs and at the end of the day I my brain is fried and all I can do is cry.

Do you get disability? Not trying to be nosy at all but that should qualify you for government assistance. How old is your son? The school system (board of education) should be able to help if he is 4 or over. Does Texas have some kind of insurance right above medicaid? Like I know in Georgia we have Medicaid and if you make too much for that yet still low income you get Georgia Peachcare. Something to look into and I know in Michigan they have MiChild if you don't qualify for medicaid. Have you contacted autism speaks in your area? Try local churches, write an ad in the local paper about your frustration. Someone is bound to see it and want to help you. Good luck I know it's difficult, I have medicaid and am in the process of trying for disability for my son yes it's a pain the butt all the time but we have to keep trying and keep searching for resources. I hope you find the help you need. I'm so sorry you are going through this but it will get better I know because we were in a shit hole for a LONG time and just yesterday I finally after months of trying found a nuerologist to take my son and a speech therapist just called me yes in 2 days I had great things happen after months and months of waiting and searching and crying. Be strong mommy it gets better just stay positive.

I have told other people this and I have done this myself..When I started ABA, it was posted in the psychology department of my college and that's how I got into it. I didn't get paid much....my point is that a lot of students majoring in speech pathology and other related subjects are usually more than happy to help as an independant study. It is also something they will do long term Just something to think about.

I don't understand that he was denied, here in PA any disabled child can get Medicaid. Plus all insurances have to pay medical cost with autism up to i believe it is $30,000 for just the austim stuff., by a law passed here in PA.
