Do children with Aspergers behave differently with familiar people ie Doctor/Phycologist/school teacher. my 4 year old will interact with familiar people without an issue, in fact he can be quite social with these people, he has limited friends at daycare and only plays with certain people. I know children with Aspergers are not social, but to what extent, and not everychild is the same.......This is SOOOOOOO confuseing!!!! Any feed back would be great!

My son is 7 and has mild aspergers. He is also quite social with family and other familiars, and very occasionally he will take to someone new immediately, but most of the time if it's someone he does not see often, he will not want to talk and will run away at the earliest opportunity. He has a select group of friends at school, but he is slowly making a wider circle there, he will actually come home and say he played with someone different occasionally!

my son has aspergers as well with our family and regular friends he s ok he will try to join in he does go and have time to himself every now and then for five minutes or so but at daycare he doesnt play with any of the kids so i guess with familliar people they tend to be more social

My 8 year old was just diagnosed with high functioning autism. Ive noticed that he is more social than he use to be with our family--actually outgoing on good days. He is okay at school. Not overly talkative but not disruptive. I wasn't sure if this is normal or not.
