Hi, ladies is there any program like this that does not require a ds? Does a DS talk so the kids clicks on a picture and it says like drink? My son is 2 1/2 and he is non verbal we have lots of pictures but carrying them tends to lend to more issues. Help!! Christina

I got myself a R4 card and downloaded and put onto the card the starter pack, that you can download for free onto it. It works great and my 5 year old has got the hang of it really fast. I still cant understand the need for a $100 sub, and so far it has cost me £7 (about $10 i think) for the card!! Trying the card i think it can be very good for non verbal people.

I did go to the website and it is $99.95 one year subscription for Tap to Talk. but they also say they have a 30 day trial. So I would do that if you want to try it out first. I did watch the video they have and TapToTalk seems pretty interesting.

Hi guys I have not heard of the Tap to Talk thing, but my kids have the Nintendos DSi's the new ones (and the old ones). I will look into that on the website. Also, to make the DSi's more impact resistent, Walmart, Target, etc. sell a Nerf foam protective cover for the game systems and it works GREAT! For about $12 it has saved my sons game system about 100 times from being damaged. Since we got it he has never broken the DS again. And we had gone through 3 DS Lite's before this DSi.

I know two non verbal teenagers who have started on it, Only recently, so i can't say that it is fantastic or not. However the nonverbal children i know use other communicators with the same idea going only more expensive. Just because a child can't speak doesn't mean they have nothing to say, and in saying that the ability to communicate is integral for every persons quality of life. you can't put a price on that! If this little system works as well as the communicators that are heavy,bulky, and can not be carried in your pocket handy. It would be worth more than gold to your child. It would mean he had a voice...Please if u do use it post your opinion of it's functionality- Iknow so many non verbal teenagers who could use it.

Go to the Tap To Talk website (www.taptotalk.com) and it will tell you all about it, as far as I can see it is a R4 card for the nintendo and you download the TapToTalk program and what you need onto it, I cant see the need for a subs or why they are doing it as a sub, but I will investigate more and let you know.

P.s I have got a hard cover for my lads ds and it protects it slightly...and also good insurance!!!

Sorry, I haven't heard of it...however, is it a subscription service? Long term contract? (you wrote $100 ay ear...or is it a one time payment?) Perhaps contacting Nintendo Customer Service would be helpful, or the Autism Speaks organization in the US.



I just worry about a long term contract if it doesn't work. Otherwise, the idea sounds INCREDIBLE! However, my friend's children (both typical) have had bad luck with their DS handhelds because when they have dropped them, they go on the fritz very easily. As well, they don't take well to liquids.



I worked with several non-verbal children, and those that were capable carried a small binder of PECS in order to facillitate communication. It was wonderful that they could go to a fast food restaurant and do their own ordering!
