I had my son at 27 wks and 6 days. He weighed 2 lbs 2 oz. I had severe eclampsia, my kidneys failed, and my brain swelled. I lost alot of memory due to that, including most of my stay at the hospital. I was diagnosed at 26 weeks 5 days and only made it 1 week before it hit me full force. I was fortunate that I had a week of steroid injections to prep his lungs and he came out screaming!!! In fact that is all I remember of his birth, heraing him cry. I was then put into an induced coma and was not allowed to wake for 3 days. When they woke me up it was still another 2 days before I could even see my son. But my husband did bring me pictures as often as he could. We were at Carle Foundation Hospital in Champaign IL. I stayed in hospital for almost a month, Collin was there for the full 3 months til right around his due date. Looking back now, it was by far the scaries thing to ever go through. But i have to say that the NICU nurses were wonderful!! I recently found out that I am now expecting my second child. My son is now 3 and he is completely healthy, although has a slight form of Autism. I think he is going ot be such a great big brother. and looking back, I thank God that I had alot more "little time" with my son than what most mothers get....... everyone says, they get to big to fast, well my miracle out of that ordeal... I got to enjoy little, just a little longer than most!!!!

I had my little girl Ava at 28 weeks 3 yrs ago! We live in Western Australia and she was born at King Edward Memorial hospital! the staff there were amazing! We dont no why she came early i was very sick during my pregnacy and and had a massive bleed at 28 weeks she was born naturally the next day! she weighed 2.4 pounds! she was very strong and was breathing by her slef completly by her 3rd week! Unfortionatly on the 3rd week she became very sick with NEC (an infection in her bowls) we were told by the doctors that she may not survive, after 1 very long week of antibyotics she pulled through, after this infection she had a hard time keeping her feeds down and would throw up alot, which meant she never gained much wieght! Today she is still very small but apart from that she is very healthy and bright you would never know she was born 12 weeks early, she is our little miracle and i feel so lucky she is hear with us today!!

I gave birth to a little boy 20 months after ava was born he was induced at 38 weeks because he was so big! Im hoping to have a 3rd child but not sure if i should push my luck not sure if id cope if i had another premmie!!

my little girl was born in jersey at 28 weeks bye an emergancy c sect i'd only went for a scan she was flown out to southampton the following day she weighed 500g and had no nails etc the nurse said she was the size of a 23 week old baby watching her grow haair. nails eyelashes was amazing watching my little girl fight means the world to me it shows me she wants to be here she was in princess anne neo nates for 4 and a half months then came back to jersey but she had a major set back so shes now in southamptons picu unfortunatly i have not been able to take my little girl home yet so i'm still feeling like a nurse/bystander than her mummy, i do get involved give her way more cuddles than she wants etc but its not the same shes on cpap at the moment yet again but is having time of with low flow oxygen through a nasel cannular and being tube fed although shes 6 months now 3 corrected she has never been able to suck a dummy and has trouble with her swallowing which i think is whats causeing her problem of getting discharged

Hi there,

I am reading your stories and very close to having our little girl at 28-30 weeks. I have suspected pre-eclampsia and am only 22 weeks, i was hospitalized on Monday night for this and im now on bed rest, thankfully my BP has returned to a normal level today and im hoping to keep it that way.

I am scared about having our little girl early, we tried for 3 years and after months of fertility treatment were blessed.

Thanks for everyone's stories!
