i went back to work and there are days i have to stay later and she ran outta milk is it ok to mix 3 oz of my milk and an oz of formula

I'm not an expert but I've have read in a book on breastfeeding that people do this, however the book suggested keeping breast milk separate and giving the "top up" in a different bottle thus ensuring that your baby gets as much breast milk as possible.  The book I'm referring to is by Dr. Jack Newman.  Sorry I don't have a more definitive answer.
