Night mares? Night terrors?

My 3 year old son has been waking up screaming and running from his bed saying there are bugs in his bed. Even when we turn on the light and show him nothing is there he still freaks out if we try to lie him down. The 1st night his daddy turned on his red light and told him that will protect him and he eventually fell asleep. In OUR bed! The second night I tried to lie him back down and stay next to him but he freaked out and started screaming again. Finally I took the dark sheets off his bed so they were white and left a night light on for him to see better. It worked a little, he was still scared, but I think having the white sheets so he could see helped. I'm not sure what to do or why he keeps doing this. =( He has randomly woken up crying before and I told him it was just a bad dream and he goes back to sleep. But this is worse! Help!

My daughter did this exact same thing last night. She kept telling us there were bugs in her bed that were trying to get her, she even said there were bugs in our room trying to get her, too. I tried rubbing her head so she could fall asleep but every so often her eyes would fling open with fear. It took more than two hours for her to settle down to sleep again. The best advice I have gotten thus far is to use a spray bottle with water and to tell her to spray the bugs away if they start to bother her. I hope this helps!

Have you talked to your pediatrition about it? If they are really bad I would bring it up at his next appointment or make an appointment about it. My 4 year old often ends up in our bed talking about bad dreams and dragons/monsters. We use Monster Spray (Fabreze) and that has helped get him to sleep but he still prefers the counch or our bed.
