What stages have your children gone through? At what point did they learn certain things? I've always been interested in how differently children develop! I'll start it off :0) ...

My name is Melissa, my son Is Padraic. He was born December 11, 2009. He was 18 days early, and measured at 10 lb 3 oz and 22 inches long. He scored a 9.9 on the APGAR, which I found interesting because he was born via c-section, and they say children born that way tend to have respiratory issues at first, along with the fact that he was nearly 3 weeks early! Moving on ...
1 month - holding head up (first day, actually)
3 months - eating solids
4 months - sitting up on his own
6 months - crawling
7 months - FINALLY holding his own bottle lol
8 months - first words (Dada, Nana, Mama)
9 months - more words (Papa, Hello, a-duu = all done lol)
We're very close to walking! He can walk a fair distance so long as you hold his hand, but he's still unsure of himself on his own. I had started walking at 9 months so I was hoping he would do the same, but I'm thinking he'll be walking just fine by the end of his 10th month.

The reason I'm so curious about these developments is because I work in a daycare and I see so many children of the same age being at such different levels. While Padraic was sitting up perfectly at 4 months, there are two infants older than that who still have no back strength what-so-ever, but at the same time there is an infant younger than all of them who is already holding his own bottle! All babies grow and develop differently, but I always find it fascinating who's babies are doing what and when. Plus it gives us a chance to brag, and what mother doesn't love doing that??!!

my daughter was born on the 30th Dec, she was 8 days early.. at 4 weeks she could hold her head by herself, she could also roll over on the floor. by 2 months she could roll one way and back the other way. by about 3 months she could sit up with help and at about 5/6 month she could sit up by herself. she was weaned at 5 and a half month with fresh vegetables and then fruit, and she love practically everything.. at 6 months she cut her first tooth and now has 4, two top and two bottom. at 6/7 months she started trying to crawl which she learned to do by the time she was 7/8 month now she gets everywhere. at 6 months she also started to say lil words like dada, baba and then mama and now its nana, head, sit, and shes learning more all the time. She didnt learn to hold her own bottle until she was 8 months though thats because she never had them until she was 7 months, she was breastfeed until then and refused to have a bottle... Now shes climbing everywhere and doesnt have an ounce of fear at all. she speeds all over the house crawling. she now tries to pull herself up and hold onto the furniture.. Shes also showing signs of wanting to walk, so hopefully her push along walker will help her with that...

Well...my children developed differently. My son was 3.5 months old when he said Mom and my daughter was 4months old. My son did not crawl until he was 12 months and walked 2 weeks after and my daughter was 5-6 months old when she started to crawl. Sat up on their own both around 5-6 months. My son was almost 11 months until he held his own bottle and my daughter still will not hold it at 10 months. My daughter and son both have a great vocabulary; two days ago my 10 month old just said tickle! I personally think it is amazing how each child can be so different. Great Post!

My Son Jordan was born Dec 23, 2009
He was holding his head up by two weeks old, holding his bottle and sitting up by 2 1/2 months, crawling at 5 months. He has been eating solid foods since about 5 months, after trying just a little bit of solid foods he wanted nothing to do with jarred food. He has 8 teeth they all came in around 7 months, with in two weeks,.. it was a hectic week hahaha =) he stopped drinking from the bottle as well, only wants a sippy
He says mama, dada, papa, baba, hi and bye, and waves, trys to blow kisses, ... and he is has been taking about 4 steps at a time for the past week =) they grow sooo fast!!!!

I love seeing how other kids his age are doing, I am always a little worried he's behind on his milestones.

My son, Simon, was born Dec. 1, by C-Section (also scored a 9). 7lb 6oz, 20" long. He was holding his head up at birth, too, completely steady by 5 weeks. - 3 months he was rolling over,
- 4 months rolling both ways, and sitting up on his own. He also started saying his first words -hi, dada, yesh (yes) - around the same time.
- Started solids at 4.5 months.
- 5.5 months he was crawling, he also cut his first tooth.
- 7 months he was pulling himself up on furniture and standing for about 5-10 seconds.
- 8 months he was cruising along when holding on to furniture or someone's hand.
- 9 months he took his first unassisted steps
- Just before he turned 10 months he was taking about 5-7 steps before falling, as well as going up the stairs (big sister decided to open the baby gate --yikes!).

He's now 10.5 months, and walking all over the place, & starting to run. He walks on carpets, hardwoods and outdoors. He can also push himself up from the floor to a standing position, as well as bend over to pick up objects without falling. I'm actually really amazed and a little freaked out by that one. He also claps and waves 'bye-bye', and also knows several words which he can't yet say. It helps to have a talkative sibling and parents, I guess :)

It's great seeing where all the kids are at. Simon has a cousin that's 12 days younger than him, so it's great to check in on her milestones, too. They hit a lot of the early ones around the same time, but he's just taken off with the physical stuff lately.
Great hearing everyone's stories!

James is our first. He rolled over at 2 months, both ways at 4 months, crawled at 6 months, started pulling himself up at 6 months and now at 9 months he's cruising and will balance on his own for about 10 seconds before toppling over! I'm thinking he's going to take his first steps soon. I can't wait!

As far as talking, no real words yet. But James loves to play patty cake and giving high fives. He uses a sippy cup but isn't perfect on that yet (I think this is mostly because he's still primarily breastfed). It's so interesting to see how babies develop, you read the books and they tell you one thing and then you have a child who shows you that the books are TOTALLY wrong!

my daughter held herself up within first 2 months, totally rolled over (back to front and front to back) by 3 months, held her bottle at 4 months, crawled at 5 months- but could not sit up until she was almost 6 months old! odd huh! she's 9 months and has started to crawl. she's all over the place- I'm thinking a lil ADD or ADHD!

Nemo was born on the 12th 7lbs full term. He can sit up, but falls if he is distracted or excited. He loves to be on his tummy he will spin around and trys to scoot on his tummy, but pulls his arm under his tummy and gets his arm stuck. Then he has to roll over to get his arm out. He has gotten up on his hands and knees a couple of times but picks up an arm and falls on his head. He is not talking either. He makes a lot of sounds, but only with things in his mouth ( passie, food or toys) He had 8 teeth by 8 mo. He eats well. He eats almost anything that we do, and if you eat around him and don't share he will scream. He is doing really well with picking up small things. To spite all the eating he is under weight. He will drink from a straw, but doesn't like bottles or sippy cups. He is breast feed, and sees his brother drink (juice boxes) from straws. Hopefully he will be crawling and talking soon, because their are many times that I look and him and would love to know what he is thinking.

Well, when my son was born he was holding his head up while lying on my belly like tummy time, he is very strong. We called him Samson he also had a full head of hair
1month out of new born nappies
3 months rolling over, eating solids, had a haircut
4months sitting up with assistance
5months another haircut
6months got 2 bottom teeth, drinks water out of the shower head
7months rocking backwards and forwards, says mama, dada, plays catch with ball, drinks out of our drink bottle, In 1 year old clothes
8months crawling, standing unassisted, walking around egde on furiture, says nana, dog, woof, baba. Holds his own bottle, and can drink in a sippy cup
9months clapping, waving, walks when he holds on to my fingers. dances when his fave show comes on tv. he is going to get another haircut today. Swimming lessons

All babies develop at the own pace, I think he is smart for his age and well developed, I play and sing to him alot. I am a stay at home mum so i talk to him alot too, and he babbles back to me. That is an area that daddy has trouble with feels weird about talking to him about stuff that he doesnt understand. He also doesnt have any junk, sugary or processed foods, everything is fresh and I make evrything for him. Its been intresting reading everyones stories!

its interesting reading all these posts and to hear the different developmental stages. its funny how babies might do one thing earlier, but then another thing way later....
as for us, my son was born 13 Dec so he'll be 10mths tomorrow (already?!?). the milestones which i can remember at the top of my head: 4mths started solids, 5mths first teeth, 6-7mths sitting, standing & cruising furniture, 8mths waving bye-bye, 9mths standing for a few seconds, can now say a few words, has 6 teeth at the mo (hasn't popped any since 7mths) - but no pointing yet, and can't identify objects (except for 'car' ;) - altho he understand when i ask him if he's hungry (he starts heading to his high chair) - very cute!
yes, its definitely fun to see our little ones growing and changing so much!!

I don't remember everything clearly but I will try. Alexandra was born on December 15, 2009--8lbs and 20 1/2 in ling. She started rolling over at 4 mos and by 5 mos could roll both ways and started crawling by end of 5 mos. She began rice cereal early and veggies at 4 1/2 or 5 mos. She learned how to pull up at 6 mos and cruise by 7mos. She did not pull herself up to sit up on her own until after she started cruising, but she began sitting up in her Jenny jump up, Bumbo, and exersaucer at 3 or 3 1/2mos She is almost 10 mos old and can walk on her own for a few feet. She will only walk on carpeted floors. She refuses to walk on her own on a hardwood floor or a tile floor which is smart I think. Now as far as food. She took herself off jarred baby food at 8 mos ( she had 2 teeth working on 2 more) She refused to eat it so I began cooking veggies for her and she ate them on her own in a high chair. So far she loves broccoli, green beans, field peas, carrots, potatoes, corn, peas, tomatoes, cheese, Gerber raviolis, and all kinds of diced fruit. She has been able to hold her own bottle now for a while..around 5 or 6mos. She began drinking form a sippy cup at 4 mos and drinking through a straw at 5 mos. She will even take some of milk during the day in a sippy cup. She doesn't speak much but can say "mama" "dada" "mimi" "up" "bye-bye" and "baba". She will not wave bye but will wave hello. She will follow most simple directions such as "lets take a bath" and she will crawl to the tub and stand up waiting to be put in. If I say "Give that to Momma please" she will take whatever it is and immediately hand it to me. She will also put her cup on the table or put something back if told to, and will give hugs and kisses if asked to. She can identify objects by pointing to them. For example: I can say "show me where Momma's nose is", and she will put her finger on my nose. She knows many objects by name but cannot yet say them (bottle, cup, ball, doll, book, duck, dog, pillow, phone, etc.) She is no prodigy or anything but we adore her just the same. It has been a joy to see her grow and change and be such a big girl. Right now she is 30 in tall and approximately 23lbs. She has 6 teeth and is cutting more. I am a proud and blessed momma :)

My son was born at 36 weeks with no complications. He rolled over at 4 and half months. I started him on cereal at 3 months and solids at 4 months. He sat with no support around 6 months and said mama, dada, and bye bye at that time as well. Crawled at 8 months, go from a laying down position to a sitting position, and pull himself up to his knees. Now at 9 months he pulls himself up to stand using anything around him, can wave bye bye, and now he is pointing at everything. Which the pointing is the cutest thing ever. Oh and around 7 months he was copying things we did(coughing, laughing, any sounds, or gestures we did with our faces).

my son is doing great and i agree us mothers love to brag lol! when we know that our child is doing something another child their age is not doing we take pride in the fact that they are progressing so well but every child developes differently your child ma do somethings at a certain age but not other while another child the same age can do those other things. it is amazing how differently they develope.

my son is 9 months 1 week and 6 days old. he was supporting his head very well by the third week he was rolling over by three months and started holding his bubba he was eating baby food at 4 months and sitting on his own at 5 months he was crawling at six months and pulling himself up on furniture by 7 months at 8 months he started to climb up on everything and cruising the furniture he is now starting to stand on his own for about a minute until he realizes it and falls. He is unsure of himself and gets nervouse. He has taken a few steps and can walk a good distance when i hold his hand. he will walk across the yard as lond as he is pushing his wagon. I expect he will be walking on his own pretty good by 10 months. He started saying dada at 8 months and said mumu once or twice he also says caa when he is plating with his toy cars. He started giving kisses last three weeks ago and pointing at everything.
