My lil guy has been breastfed ever since he came home. He will not take a bottle or pacifier. Although I want him to be a boob baby, I just want him to take a bottle from time to time. Any suggestions?

TIA.

Btw, I'm Jessica and I'm new! :)

like many said, when Ivy was given the bottle by other people she took it better. Also, I rubbed the bottle on her lip first to get that reaction you get when nursing, and then she would take it for a few sucks... finally she realized that was where the food was.
The 'flavor' of all formulas are different, so if you're using formula you might want to try a different kind. We switched for a day and she HATED it.

I am breastfeeding my son, but since he just started daycare, he has to take bottles too. I got a bunch of bottles for my baby shower that he ended up not liking. I found these ones at Target by First Years called Breastflow. It is made to be more like the mother's boob. When I switched bottles, he took to those very fast

i had the same problem with my daughter. however i added some breast milk into her formula to give it the flavour she was used to and gradually weaned it out and now shes on straight formula. start with 50% breast milk and 50%formula after a week change it to 25% breast milk then the next week less until its only formula. i also found that if you use a bigger teat rather than those round ones it works alot better!! good luck

hi,i had the same prob with my first son. I had to let my husband give him the bottle with me stood the other side of the room so he didnt smell my milk,i also expressed it for him in the end switching to formula. It took a little while for him to take the bottle at first, but when he realised there was no 'boob' he took it,sometimes u need to be cruel to be kind! Ive gone straight to formula with my 12wk old as its easier with a 22month old as well! Ur baby will take it in the end,one thing a child doesnt do and thats go hungary. Good luck i know how frustrating it is x

Thanks girls! I do pump, but I don't get a ton. This is just for when I'm out or at night and Daddy can feed him. I'm going to try formula. I just bought some drop-ins. My Mom said she used those on me when she was breastfeeding, and wouldn't you know it, he took it! yay! I've only tried it twice, but I think he'll get the hang of it. The package had like 3 different nipples. We will see!

Thanks so much!

i would suggest when the baby is very hungry also, he will have no other laternative just let a lil of the milk drop on his tongue first so he realizes that its a taste he is used to. Btw its breastmilk u pumped int the bottle right cuz if its formula maybe he's just not ready to switch

i breastfed at first but due to lack of milk supply i couldn't. One suggestion that may work is that there are several types of nipples that are said to be good for switching from breast to bottle...i've recently discovered the nuk bottles, and tried one on the off chance that my lil one would like it, i usually use dropins because she was so gassy. she really does well with the nuk nipples though, and on the container it says it is recommended for babies who switch from breastfeeding to bottles and vice versa...there is also a wider nipple bottle from the playtex ventair system. i've tried about 5 or 6 diff types of bottles in search of one that does well for my lil ones gassiness, and by far i'd say the dropins are the best, the natural nipple (orangy/yellow one) works great. HTH and gl2u

It may help if you have someone other than you offer it to him. Also, try not to do it when he's super hungry.

Welcome and Good luck!
