Combing daughters hair is like torture for both of us!

My daughter screams every time I try to comb her hair - no matter how gentle and careful I am - she reacts as if I am torturing her and says it "hurts." I remain calm, and talk softly as I try to comb it after bath time (I use coconut oil and natural conditioners to detangle), but it doesn't help. Any advice? Is this abnormal that it is so painful for her or that she reacts like this? At first, I thought she was just being dramatic, but months later, I realize that she really seems to be in pain from it.

my daughter has really curly hair I have to spray her hair with a detangling spray before I can even attempt to comb it. We havent cut hers yet, it goes way past her shoulders but as long as its a little damp she doesnt complain.

Well, Lola's hair (she was born Dec 2009) is already grown past her shoulders - I'm not sure if it's a baby fuzz issue? It's not that thick either, so it's not necessarily hard to comb through - she just gets so sensitive about it! But to answer your question, no - we have not had a first haircut yet... do you still think that would help in this case?

Has she had her first haircut yet, my daughter who was born in April 2009 used to do the same thing until just this past month we finally caved and gave her her first haircut what a difference that has made the hair dresser cut off all the baby fuzz and left just the healthy hair about an inch I think but now it is a breeze to do my daughters hair. I also spray in a leave in conditioner if her hair seems slightly tangly and it works good.
