wow, baby babbel is so cute...
I think consious speech comes a lot later though...
And dont worry, this developmental stage is sooooo wide, I have a friend whos daughter spoke actual words at 1... whilst my 2.5 year old boy started saying words at 18months... he is bilingual though, so that makes a difference..

my little girl is 5 n hlf months and she has started to say mum mum, bubba which we think is for brother as she gets very excited when seeing him and says this word over and over and also she says da (for daddy) all different children speak at different stages and more so i think if they are a second child as they have someone rabbling on all day to learn from :)

my daughter said hi at almost 3 months and says ma ma ma but its just noise she is always babbling something. But I dont think the average child really starts saying real words till they are about that age if not even older so u have nothing to worry about.

I swear sometimes my daughter says yeah, but its not really clear. She mainly just Jabbers alot, my first born was saying uh oh and dada at 5 months and by 10 months mama dog, whoof, kitty, nana, ball, baby, stop and many more. Each child is different though he still has alot of time to learn.

My little one basically says "guh" and makes a variety of raspberries. I've never heard a "dada" from her, and even when she cries I don't hear "mama". My first didn't use words until she was a year old, but now she's very articulate and has a great vocabulary.

Only yesterday did our little guy start saying mama. I'm convinced he doesn't know it means me but sure does get lots of praise when he does it. I've been saying it for 2 months now hoping I win the mama dada race that my husband and I are playing with him. Like other babies he's been saying it when he cries but it was a nice feeling to hear it when he wasn't for once.

All he does is scream like a banshee and makes the funniest face ever! It is cute but he is loud! He is soon to be 6 months old.

My two older kids never really talked until they were 18 months, but my baby girl is totally different. She's saying mamama, dadadada, nananana, babababa.... the boys only made sounds. Don't worry, she will eventually say Mama. It will take awhile. Just wait until there's word explosion at 2. You will be amazed every day at the things they learn so fast!

My daughter is 5 1/2 months and she squeals mostly. She has started to explore new sounds and mouth movements, so she is in the beginning of babbling. Sometimes it sounds like she says hi, yeah and mom, but I'm not sure she is actually saying those words.

My son just turned 5 months and no words yet but he definitely babbles, and you can say certain things to him and he just laughs. I can't wait to hear what his first word will be though, I keep saying Dada to him in hopes his first word will be momma ....as soon as I try saying momma it will be dada...reverse psychology on a 5 month old....lets see how that goes!

Husband is convienced they say mamma all the time. I just don't hear it. I can't remember when my first born spoke...(hurricanes took baby books)...BUT THEY "TALK" !! They make the noises and then stare at you expectantly. If you repeat the sound close enough they will laugh and giggle and do it again. They CONSTANTLY "Chatter" to each other...Wonder what I'm saying to them that makes them laugh??!!
They are premature, so does that effect?? They roll both ways and are almost crawling (They lunge)

My eldest said 'mumumumum!' when she was 4mths. The clinic nurse was trying to measure her and she got upset as she couldn't see me. Hubby was really pleased but I could see that he really wanted her to say dada too. So, while he was at work all I'd ever say to her was dadada. On christmas morning 2006 we were woken by our baby saying 'dadada' through the baby monitor! Hubby was up in a flash and the day was a hit!

With my 5mth old she says 'ada' when playing by herself with a few toys. A few times she has said 'uma' when looking at me while changing her. Most of the time she squeals or blows raspberries. So cute!!

Otto is five and a half months old and he says dada...Well actually he says "DADADADAADADADAAAA" but you get the picture. To start with it I think he was just making the noise, but I am pretty sure that he is starting to figure out that my husband is dada. No luck with mama yet.

My son turns 5 months on the 29th. He said his very first word almost 3 weeks ago. His father was trying to feed him and he got upset and looked him in the face and cried mama and started to bawl. That's the only word he's said so far but he knows when he screams it, I will be right there. His father gets frustrated and has been trying to teach him dada, but so far no go. lol
