My daughter is loving her solid food but unfortunatly she seems to be constipated from it. She has always struggled with bowel movements since birth but never more than 3 or 4 days.
So my question is does anyone know what foods i could give to help her move?
She was born dec 23rd so is about 6 n a half months.

My doctor suggested I give my daughter nectar. It works really well.

Pears worked a treat for me.
You can also get product from the chemist - probiotics such as inner health plus (here in Australia) work great and can be given to babies in food or bottle

Thank good mums, all your tips I will also put to use because going to the bathroom for my 7+ months old boy has never been easy. Tried pear juice, it worked at first and then constipation again. Took him to the doctor and he was given laxative which has not really worked. So there is hope and at least, we are not alone.

I give BJ a lil watered down prune juice. Also, increase his fiber intake. I only give him whole wheat cereal with any of his food/formula. All of the suggestions work; you just have to find the right one/amount for your baby.

i have the best baby food cook book that tells what foods are good for this! and ive tried them and they work on my son (homemade or store bought, doesnt matter). prunes, applesauce (apple juice causes constipation, i dont remember the difference but u can google it), peaches, pears, and mangos! my son has oatmeal, cereal, barley, fruits, and/or veggies everyday and isnt constipated bc he gets one of those food items everyday!

My 6 month old son had this prob when he started eatting solid foods. He would go without having bowel for like 5-6 days so he had to do a suppository to help him and it was pretty bad but it worked in like couple mins. At his 6 month check up his dr. put him on a laxative powder that he had to have in a 4oz juice bottle. He also told me to give him prunes, peaches, and barley in one of his feedings. I do that now and he goes to the bathroom one even twice a day. Hope that will work out....best of luck

Hi there,
Certain foods cause constipation in babies such as apples, banana and sometimes potato, and any iron fortified cereals as well.
I didn't want to cut these foods out completely tho because my son (Cohen - 7 months) really likes them :)

The advice I have received was to ensure Cohen was getting enough fluid - so a breast feed before his solids and water from a sippy cup during and after his meal.

When he was really 'stuck' I was advised to give him watered down peach or pear juice (1tbsp juice to 3 tbsp water).

Both of those methods worked really well and he is now a more comfortable little man!

All the best x

I blended up fresh blueberries and mixed them with applesauce. Emma loved it and went the next morning. It has to be fresh blueberries though, not frozen or jarred, they lose whatever it is that helps move the bowels when frozen and processed.

Prunes works for my son, sometimes too well! :)! When I find he's a bit stopped up I give him a half jar with his breakfast.
