His 1st cold :( any soothing tips?

My daughter had her first cold about a month ago , I gave her nice warm bath , put a baby hot water beside her while i held her , baby vicks , and a good suction everytime they sneeze... hope it helps

You're doing all the right things, according to the nurse I just talked to having the same problem. Add in a humidifier in the room, and saline drops as the other mom suggested. The nurse told me that if she didn't cough it out, it would turn into pneumonia, and that's how I comforted myself as I watched her cough and cough. Before feedings, I found it helped to hold the baby upright, squirt the saline drops in the nose and wait a few minutes for it to run out, suck out the mucus with the aspirator and repeat perhaps one more time. This helps clear out the nostrils so he can breathe while eating. She also advised to let her sleep in her car seat or reclining swing, rather than completely horizontal until the coughing subsides. One thing to watch for is a temperature, rectally, and to call the doctor if he's got a temp. A common thing after long or repeated colds is ear infections, which are really painful and may require antibiotics to treat.

Ask your doctor about a nebulizer and abuterol prescription. My little one needed that when he got sick at two months. It helped him alot. It helped clear out his nose and helped his cough. He loved the treatment too, sat through most of it everytime. The nebulizers are pricey but if you have more kids or plan on having more, it's worth the investment. My son's dr also said to use a cold water humidifier in the room he sleeps in overnight. It helps his breathing. No Vicks, just water. Good luck. Hope baby feels better soon =) And just another side note, those little colds, especially the cough, takes a while for baby to get rid of completely.

Put vicks baby rub on the bottoms of his feet and cover with white socks.... helped my little guy out TONS!!!!

My son has a lot of congestion too and he went for his 4 month check yesterday and the dr. said he has bronchilitis and that there is nothing you can do for it. Hopefully he would sound better by the weekend but that the cough could last up to 2-4 weeks. I've just been putting the saline drops down his nose and trying to suck out as much as I can (which isn't much) and I have a humidifer on in his room at night. He doesn't have a fever with it so that is good. I wouldn't recommend giving the Tylenol unless you think he is really uncomfortable or running a fever. My little guy is doing pretty good with it. He isn't really fussy and he is still sleeping through the night pretty comfortably. I have a wedge under his sheet in his crib.

Try getting olabis oil for children. dab on a few spots on his cot blanket ( top, away from him) i think it works wonders.

you can also give him a warm bath in the baby vapor bath wash, that works good. when you suck his nose to using using little noses saline drops, i noticed when my daughter got sick i would get more yucky stuff out of her nose with the saline drops as opposed to without, and of course the vaporizer helps, and keeping him elevated will help keep it from draining down his throat!

My son got a really bad cold. He was weezing when he tried to breath and coughing like crazy. I turned the shower all the way onto hot water and let the bathroom fill up with steam. I held Camryn in the bathroom for 10-15 mins or sometimes i'd just take a shower and put him in his bouncer and leave the shower curtain open so the steam would get out. It usually helped loosen up what was in his chest. Also, warming up his formula (not too hot but really warm) helped him to spit up the mucus. Other than that all we did was elevate him when he slept and tried to keep him as comfy as possible when awake
