How and when to introduce "real" food?

Hi,
My little girl is a week shy of 8 months old. She eats a bit more than a jar of organic baby food twice a day, and has a bottle afterwards as well as two feedings that are just a bottle. (her bottles are 7oz of formula). She enjoys eating the rice rusks that dissolve into mush quite quickly. She does not have any teeth yet. When should I introduce real foods, what real foods, and how is the best way? Any suggestions?

Start with simple things. I used bananas and avacado first. Toast. Things that are simplechew with or without teeth

Hi! My 8 month old loves food. We started with rice cereal at 4 months and slowly added new purees. She eats 1 jar for breakfast with some oatmeal cereal, 2 jars (1 fruit or veggie and one meat) at dinner and has about 5 6oz bottles throughout the day. When she wants a snack, she loves yogurt. As far as real solids, i started my daughter with fruits in the mesh feeder and now she can mash small chunks of bannana in her mouth on her own and she loves to suck on apples, peaches, lots of fruits. When we cook rice and beans, we'll mash up some and feed her a bit of that. At this age, they can also have cottage cheese, but we have'nt tryed that yet. Just try anything soft and easily mashed. Once she gets the hang of the texture she'll want it more and more. You'll know when she is ready to try something! Good Luck (:

My son wont eat his food if he sees my food anywhere around. He has no teeth yet but I just cut everything that I eat into small pieces. He just chews it with his gums.

My daughter is 8months and has just got her first tooth, however she has been eating everything we eat since she was 4and a half months old. Start on savoury vegetables mashed up like broccoli and cauliflower and zucchini and potato =ones that arnt sweet so they will eat them as people i know have done sweet food first and their kids wont eat savoury just sweet. Good luck

I'd start with the soft real foods - avocado, mashed pumpkin, potato, pureed fruits etc. Then see how she goes, then try he food a bit mushier. My son's 8 months and eats real mushy food plus eats a range or normal foods like cracker biscuits, fruit pieces, banana pieces, will hold onto a piece of cooked meat and chew/suck etc. He'll eat just about anything. He has 5 teeth so he can kinda chew but rarely chokes now compared to a month ago. He also has about 4 bottles a day - each about 7.5 fl oz which is what my health nurse recommended also as this is the most important part of their diet so just check because she might not be getting enough milk.

My dr. told me to start with my 7 month old so he can get use to different textures. He even told me to start giving him a little bit of cheese and whole milk so his body will start getting us to it..
