Hey there ladies,
I'm tryin to compare the facts with different babies. My little 1yr old daughter sleeps roughly about 10.5 hrs thru the nite (maybe less with couple of the waking ups) and barely up to 2 hrs daytime but divided in 2 naps(a lot of times only 30-40 mins). I think thats not enough of sleep for her coz she is constantly cranky after about 2 hrs of play (she is very active, never stops) and barely makes it awake for 4 hrs in between the naps.
My questions would be:
1. how many hrs your little 1 yr old sleep in 24hrs frame and out of that what is daytime and what night time?
2.What time do they wake up in the mornin?
3. Do u think your child is happy with the ammount of the sleep time?
4. If not, does your child have an illness,a condition of some sort(colic...I know its not likely at this age but anyway, maybe reflux,or silent reflux) or somethin bothering them(like teething, cold etc.)?
5. Do they like to fall asleep in the prams/push chairs or a car?
My daughter haven't had a decent nap since she was born( she slept for 2 hrs straight maybe couple times and that would happen once in every couple months) and thats somethin I cannot get over and I'm constantly trying to understand why?.....and she would sleep thru the night most of the time untill about 2 mths ago but she is always waking up 5-5.30am.......
I am going crazy and I am anxious so much that I don't sleep past 4.30am when she starts tossing and turning and look at the clock thinking is she gonna wake at 5 or maybe little after....
Anyway I would appreciate the input that anyone makes....it will help me to at least compare the infos.
Thank You

My little girl just turned 13 months. She has been sleeping anywhere from 10-12 hrs a night. She has been doing that for about 2 months. She usually only takes one nap in mid afternoon. She doesn't like to take naps. She thinks she is going to miss something.lol

You are describing my boy 5 months ago!
1- he sleeps 14 hours in 24
2- he wakes up at 7am
3 - he is happy with his sleep
4 - does like his pram but i put him in bed and he puts himself to sleep

My boy use to sleep like yours 10 hours at nihgt and 2 sleeps during the day for about an hour. I started to change his day routine from 2 sleep to one. He gets up at 7am so i would have brekkie at 7.15am, morning tea at 9am and lunch at 10.30am maybe eleven if he was doing well. Straight into bed after lunch for a sleep of 2 - 3 hours, then he was up. I had dinner and bath done by 6pm at nihgt and he was back in bed at 7.30pm -8.307pm, made a huge difference to him. He now sleeps 7pm to 7am and sleeps for 2 to 3 hours after lunch, his body adjusted and is happyier now and sleeps so much better then what he did.
Good luck.

My little girl sleeps about 10-12 hours at night and then sometimes 1-2 naps during the day. These daytime naps last about anywhere from 30 minutes until 1.5 hrs. She will wake up about 7am. My daughter will sleep in the car. I've been pretty fortunate and haven't had many issues as far as sleep.

2.My daughter gets up between 8 and 9 most mornings.
3.Yes my daughter is a very happy baby girl and she is really never in a bad mood.

I've been very lucky my little man sleeps 7pm-8am no problems then about 10am sleeps for an hour and a half, then has another hour half/two hours at about 130-2pm. He's ver very tall for his age I think it's due to all his sleeping!!

Hi here we go.

1) he sleeps around 13-14 hours total in a 24 hour period. Around 12 hours at night and 1 or 2 hours during the day if i'm lucky.

2) he usually wakes between 7.30 and 8.30.

3) I do think he is happy with the amount of sleep he has as he is a really active and inquisitive child who is rarely grumpy unless his teeth are hurting.

4) During the day if I know he is ready for a nap I find he falls asleep much easier n the pram so we go for a walk down the street.

He sleeps through about 5 nights out the week, at the moment due to teething pain and he has recently had a bad cough which has been waking him, but he will usually back asleep within about 10-20mins. I think your little one is doing fine. Is she in her own room yet as this could help with the waking in the night as she won't be woken by your tossing and turning?

Yes i do think he is happy with the amount of sleep he gets he is on a routine schedule!

My son likes to put himself to sleep in his crib so at bed time (7) i lay him down and he puts himself to sleep!

My son is a pretty good sleeper now but it took a while to get there. We had to sleep train several times. Now however, he sleeps about 12 hours at night. Then he takes on nap that is anywhere for 1 1/2 hours to 3 hours but normally right around 2 hours. So thats a total of about 14 hours of sleep. He also wakes up between 7 and 8 am. I do think this is enough sleep for him as he normally is pretty happy until its close to nap or bedtime. Have you tried switching her to one nap to see if she sleeps longer that way?

My daughter turned a year old on 12-8-2010. She goes to bed at 7pm and doesnt wake until 6:30-7:00 a.m. and she takes 2 two hour naps a day so she is sleeping roughly 16 hours a day. When I put her to bed I have no trouble, she has her glow worm and her radio and as long as she has them two things she is fine. I had no problem with my twins going to bed either when they were younger. All 3 of my kids were easy to put to bed I never had to put them to sleep they always put themselves to sleep. I dont know if your little one has a special toy that they like or not but try letting them go to bed with that toy and try a radio in their room when they go to bed I have found that if they have noise in their room it helps them to go to sleep. I think it makes them feel like they are not alone.

My son turned one on Christmas day and he sleeps anywhere from 10 - 12 hours a night. He goes to sleep between 7 - 8:30 and gets up between 6 - 8. He usually has one nap a day about two hours after dinner. Unless we're out and about than he's all over the place (For example: if we go shopping for the day we have to drive over an hour one day).

2. If he wakes during the night, I could give him a bottle and he'll go right to sleep. BUT I started taking the bottle away about a month ago and he just gets a bottle before he goes to sleep. So if he wakes during the night I let him cry it out unless he's in "distress".
3. He's extremely happy all the time, even when you wake him up. I have no idea where he gets all the happiest too.
4. If he's not sleeping his "normal" pattern it's usually due to teething which is happening quite frequently lately.
5. If he's tired his car seat/car is like a sleeping pill. But if he's not tired he won't sleep. He just looks out the window.

1) My son sleeps about 10 hours through the night usually waking once or twice as he is a wild sleeper and rolls around a lot, and then lately he has been taking one nap in the afternoon for about 2-3 hours.
2) He usually wakes up around 8 in the morning or sometimes earlier if he slept well that night or later if he had a rough night.
3) I can tell my son doesn't enjoy waking frequently during the night anymore than me or my husband does but we do what we can to keep him comfortable and he is usually a very happy baby when he wakes up for the day.
4) My son did/does have reflux. It made sleeping for him very rough as an infant, and i have a feeling he is still dealing with lingering effects today. He is also teething. 4 teeth just popped through within the last couple of days, and he just had his first ear infection. I used to get them very frequently as a kid so I am hoping that will not be the case for my son.
5) My son will sleep in the car but he hasn't fallen asleep in a stroller in a while. We are also working on getting him off of his infant swing that he would fall asleep in as well.

My son did go through a period where he was waking up early and only taking short little cat naps during the day. It could just be teeth or a stage she is going through. Give it some time and stick to a routine. After 13 months I am only just finally starting to feel comfortable with the routine and sleep pattern that we are on.

My daughter didn't start to take naps or sleep thru the night til about 11 1/2 months. She would never sleep and she was super colicky. All she did was scream and never sleep it was awful. Now I have got her on a pretty decent schedule, unless daddy messes it up ...lol. I put her to bed about 8- 8:30 pm and unless she wakes up screaming I don't feed her thru the night. I try not to give her bottles cos I dont want her teeth to rot. But usually she will sleep until I wake her up at 7 am. Then I put her down for her next nap between 10- 10:10 am I will let her sleep no more than 1 1/2 - 2 hours for the first nap. it also depends how she slept at night too. the second nap is taken around 3- 3:30 pm I always wake her up at 5pm if I let her sleep past it disrupts her bed time. I have a lot of anxiety and sleeping issues due to her first year. I love my daughter. but I would goes 5+ days at a time without sleep. my husband works night shift and he sleeps all day than works all night and works 5 plus days a week. I don't have anyone really who can help. My health physically and mentally went into a dark hole. Now even though she sleeps I can't and I don't want to take medicine. I would have panic attacks because I couldnt keep her quiet while my husband was sleeping ...it was a nightmare. It took a year but it did get better. My advice to you is this if you have ruled out illness. Sometimes children take longer to learn to sleep I have seen other families go through it. Create a schedule and try to stick to it and eventually your child will get the hang of it good luck = )

my baby usually goes to bed about 6pm and wakes about 8:30 sometimes later..... around 1pm she will have a nap for 2 around hours so around 16 hours thats on a weekend. on a school day when i have to drop her brother off she usually speels 6pm-7am (i have to wake her) shes usually tired coz i have woken her and falls asleep around 9:30-12 (ish) and because its a long time she might fall asleep half hour early at night so on a weekday around 16 hours again. i think shes happy with her routine as she falls asleep at night with no problems - i put her in her cot 90% of the time she's still awake and she falls to sleep within 10 mins.... i do believe she needs a nap in the day still but let her decide when she will fall asleep in her pram id we are out and at home she comes and asks for a cuddle (arms held up ect...) and will fall asleep there... she did go through a phase of wakng up at 5:30 for about a week so i made an effort to make sure she i woke her if she was sleeping 4 hours before bedtime and not to let her fall asleep if there was less then 4 hours b4 bedtime if time if she hadnt had a nap that day i would encourage her to fall asleep around lunchtime.... i decided anytime after 7 was what time i would like her to wake so if she woke before that i would treat it as thought it was still night time and not get her out to play... i would give her a cuddle and explain its not morning yet.... sometimes that worked other times she would just play in her cot

My son Jackson born december 15th 2009 has never been a very good sleeper. Even during those sleepy newborn days when babies sleep alot.....yeah not mine. The only way he would sleep was if he was nursing, the second I tried to move him he would wake. luckily it's not quite that bad anymore but he's still an extremely light sleeper and requires alot of cuddling. I probably shouldn't but I always hold him until he's good and sleeping then carefully put him on his crib right next to my bed, but he always ends up back in bed with me at one point or another. We are trying to phase that out but it's not going to well (tips?). He usually goes to sleep in my arms like I said then I put him in his crib where he will sleep for a few hours then wake around one our two and will usually go back to sleep if I put him in bed with me, sometimes he will want a bottle, then will usually wake again at 5 for a bottle if he didn't already have one then will continue to stay in bed with me until 7 or 8.
1) in 24 he usually sleeps anywhere from 12-14 hours. 11-12 at night, and anywhere from 1-2 during the day, usually broken up into two naps. Which also depends on what we did during the day.
2) he usually wakes up between 7 and 8 and goes to bed at our around 8
3) he seems happy for the most part, he tends to be clingy and cries every time I leave the room but wether our not that has to do with sleep? He is cranky though if his sleep is interrupted and therefore missed.
4) he's all around pretty healthy, with his age he could be teething but I don't really think he is, at least it's not bad yet.
5) he will fall asleep in the car depending on the time of day and how long the ride is. But he will wake as soon as the car turns off and woke go back to sleep if I try to have him finish his nap. He doesn't fall asleep in his stoller really at all though with maybe the exception of a few times. But they were long periods of being in the stroller.

My Dec 9 boy sleeps 12 hours at night, waking between 6:30 and 7:30am. He has one day sleep for about an hour, usually around 11am. Occasionally he'll go a little longer, up to an hour and a half.

He will sleep in the car seat. Not sure about the pram, we very rarely use it, but I doubt he'd sleep in it.

We co-sleep at night.

My son doesn't go to bed until around 10:30pm and will wake up around 7-8 am during the week, cause we have to wake him to leave for daycare. On the weekend it can be 9:30am. He is sparatic at nap times, but generally he takes to 1-2 hour naps during the day or 1 long 3 hour nap (which he does better with.) His biggest problem is he is a busy bee. He thinks he should be right in the middle of all of the action, so the only way we can get him to relax is to run the noise from the humidifier. That's anytime of day. At daycare he has a hard time relaxing until all of the other kids are down for their naps. He has nothing unusual going on. The hardest part is him not wanting to go to bed until late.

1. 14 hours a night, and has 3 1-2 hour naps a day.
2. he wakes up around 930
3. if he doesnt get that amount of sleep then i pretty much prepare myself for a cranky baby. otherwise when he sleeps like he normally does he's almost always happy.
4. my little man is teething, but i lucked out and he basically sleeps through it all
5. my son HATES car seats, and willnot fall asleep in a vehicle or a stroller unless he is absolutely exhausted!!

My son (who turned one on dec 30th) goes to bed around 8pm and will fall asleep usually within 30 mins (sometimes he is a little more wired and will play in bed for a while, but that is rare). He'll wake up usually twice in the night and I nurse him back to sleep, so he's only awake for about 10 minutes.

He wakes up in the morning between 8:30 and 9. So he gets about 12 hours of sleep through the night. After he's been awake for 2 hours, I see that he is getting cranky, so I lay him down for his first nap which is between 1 and 2 hours long. He is then awake for another 2 to 2 1/2 hours before he goes down for a 2nd nap which is usually shorter than the first (around 1 hour). So daytime sleep he gets about 3 hours of sleep, so in 24 hours he'd be getting around 15 hours of sleep.

Hope this helps.

1. My daughter sleeps about 12-13 hours at night, and still takes two naps a day usually about 2 hours each. One at about 1030 / 11 and then again at like 4.

2. my daughter gets up between 7 and 8 in the morning... i usually wait until i hear her talking alot to get her though, because she lays there for about 30 minutes "waking up" and she will say a word here and there but if i try to get her up in that time shes really cranky like it affected her sleep lol.

3. my daughter doesnt get both naps in during the day she gets really cranky.. I dont mind getting up early with her if she chooses to but she doesnt so i guess she must like sleeping for that long =]

4. there really isnt anything that prevents my daughter from sleeping... she never had problems while teething or anything so i dont know

5. i went through a stage with my daughter where she wanted to get up at 4 / 5 a.m. to play but then wanted to take a nap at 8 a.m... a few days i let it happen till i couldnt handle getting up that early ( i'm pregnant so its really hard when i dont get enough sleep to keep up with her ) so what i did was put a toy in her crib after she had fallen asleep.. it gave her something to do when she woke up and she would eventually just fall back asleep - and after a while that habit broke and she just started sleeping back in till 7 or 8..... my daughter doesnt mind falling asleep in the car but she prefers her crib... she knows when nap time and bed time are and she defiantly know which bed is hers and she wants to be there.. my daughter also has a certain type of blanket she likes more than any others- and she usually sleeps better when she has those blankets... And also i have found that if i do dinner bath and bed right in a row and dont give her any play time in between it helps her sleep better through the night... try doing a "down time" befor you lay her down- i have learned that if i relax with my daughter about 1/2 hour befor laying her down she falls asleep alot faster and sleeps better than if i pick her up from playing and say nap time.

goodluck =] let us know how everything turns out.

I have to say I have it easy. Ayden sleeps 11-12 hours no wake ups at night since about 6 months. 2 Naps during the day, usually a total of 2-4 hours depending on if he's having a growth spurt. If we are out he is happy to fall asleep in his pram, his car seat, sitting up in the shopping trolly, at home, he's use to fall asleep in his walker, just in random areas of the house where he is playing but most times when he just a bit cranky I just put him in his cot, he'll roll over and go straight to sleep.
He did go through a phase where he would wake at 4.30 everymore also, after a week of me thinking he wanted a feed and other mums saying the same thing I just let him cry for 5 mins and he went back to sleep. A few days of that and he was back to sleeping right through. Most cases its just a habbit, they know they will get attention if they wake up. If you show her its not time by not picking her up or ignoring her for a while she to should realise and go back to sleep.

Best wishes

[deleted account]

my daughter turned one on 30th Dec and sleeps from 7pm til 8am, then goes down for a nap at around mid day for about 30mins. We have always put her down for naps in her cot and never let her fall asleep on us so that she has the skills to get herself back to sleep if she wakes up. There are nights where she has repeatedly woken but we have ignored her and she soon learned that it is still sleepy time and so drifted off herself.

Ok here's my answers -

1. My son who turned 1 on 31st december 2010, sleeps around 10-12hrs a day average - 9 at night and 1.5 hrs sleep in the day.
2. He wakes anytime between 7-9am, though usually around the 8am mark.
3. My son is soo energetic and bubbly I think he gets enough sleep. I can tell when he hasn't because he'll fall asleep in his highchair!
4. Had sleeping troubles with teething, went through sleep regression at 8 months which was horrible and he lost alot of sleep then but he is fine now and some nights with cry throughout the night but he must be having a nightmare and is fixed with cuddles or coming back to bed with us.
5.My son will sleep anywhere...chair, floor, pram, carseat, arms, grass, we are so lucky he does that!

If there an organisation you can ring to do with sleep. I know in Australia we have Tresillian service and they are brilliant I hear. Hope you get some sleep soon and your little one!

Is she eating enough. My daughter wouldnt nap or sleep well at night for a while and it was because she was still hungry. For the first 7 months we wouldnt get more than an hour at a time day and night because she suffers from silent reflux she has since been put on medication for it and sleeps 10-12 hours at night and her naps during the day depending on how long she slept at night will take 2-4 hours during the day. She can fall asleep in the car though not well enough to keep sleeping once the car stops and she sleeps well in her pram. She does on occasion and more often recently wake one to two times in the night but is usually easily settled back to sleep. Im not sure if this is related to teething but i have noticed her reflux flaring up so it could be because of that as well. Hope this helps

My little girl is 1 year she has two different schedules that she follows. She is not happy to sleep during the day - she will start moaning and dropping her head against my chest but when i go to put her down - she flicks her self onto her hcest and wriggles up to a sitting possition and then starts playing in her cot. She even refuses to be rocked to sleep - the last week i have resorted to putting her in the car to make her fall asleep - we go for a drive and then i nap in the car with her if we are going somewhere or i will come home and carefully take her up to her cot.

here is her schedules

9/10 hours sleep
5am wake and feed (milk)
2hrs sleep
breakfast
10 tea time
11 nap - 45 min
12 lunch
14 tea time
15 nap - 35- 45 min
17 supper
18 bath
18.30 milk feed
19 the troublesome time begins and she goes to sleep anywhere between 18.30 and 21.00

if she skips the first 2 hour nap (5-7) then she is really tuckered out by 9am and she naps well but only for about 45 min - but then the second nap at 14.00 she goes down a bit easier for.

I have been advised to follow sleep training to get her to learn to sleep as at night her papa rocks her to sleep - she is not interested in me rocking her to sleep - she fights it and me but if i put her in her cot she gets up and plays -

my daughter has sleep a few times for 2 or 1.5 hour nap but the usual is 35 to 45 minutes and if the seoncd day nap is too late in the day - there are major issues when bed time comes as she is not that tired.

good luck

My son isnt that great of a sleeper!
1. He sleeps about 10 hours at night with him waking up several times at night.
2. He wakes up at 6:30am normally and takes 2 naps but because of my schedule with my daughter being in kindergarten its hard for me to fit in a good nap when she is in school. She only goes half day in the afternoon so I have to give him a short nap in the morning then a short one in the afternoon. I have noticed when she is on a break and I can span the naps out he takes a great nap usually about 2 hours. Other than that they are an hour long at the max.
3. Usually he is pretty happy if he has napped but I noticed he does better when he has had a longer nap.
4. At night he wakes up every two hours...which i have to put him back to sleep. I have noticed he is a very light sleeper and a little bit of noise will wake him completely up. I have turned on a fan as background noise in order to phase out the other little noise that may wake him up. It works for the most part. I am a very light sleeper as well and I often wake up throughout the night so im wondering if maybe he inherited that from me. Otherwise he has been on the same schedule and we try very hard to not alter it so it doesnt screw up his schedule. From my experience with children in general.....I just dont think they sleep well until they are way older and in school lol.

I have been pretty blessed too! My little guy sleeps very well at night and lightly during the day.
1. He sleeps approx 13 hrs a day. 12 hours at night and two half hour naps during the day. At daycare he takes even longer naps.
2. He wakes around 7- 8. If he happens to wake up very early I leave him in his crib until he is in distress. Generally, he falls right back to sleep again.
3. I think he is pretty happy. He is smiling the minute I walk into his room and get him. After his morning sippy cup of milk and a snack he is off and playing!
4. My little guy has had a constant cold and sometimes coughs in the night, but generally goes right back to sleep on his own.
5. He does fall asleep in his stroller or his car seat. The minute he gets buckled into his car seat he is out cold!

I think this is just a phase and I wouldn't worry too much. Babies generally get what they need and some just are not nappers. If you are still concerned I would talk to your doctor. I am sure this is just a phase. Good luck!

I've been pretty blessed with my little guy.
1) He sleeps about 14 hours a day. 11-12 hours overnight and we've gone down to one nap a day which is about 2 1/2-3 hrs.
2) He wakes up between 7-8.
3) He seems to be doing pretty well. He hits a bump in the morning that a snack will get him through until afternoon nap.
4) Both my kids even sleep through ear infections (I know I'm lucky!) and my little guy has no teeth yet!!!
5) He does sleep in a car (we travel often) but has to be REALLY tired to sleep in a stroller. Last night was one of the first times he has done so. My older son NEVER did.

He did go through a phase when he woke up every morning at 5-5:30. I would leave him in his crib unless he sounded 'in distress' and get him up closer to 7. It lasted about a week and a half then he magically started sleeping until 7 again.
I would talk to your doctor. They might be able to help you determine if somethings wrong, or give suggestion for a routine that might help you both!
Good luck!!
