Hi, my son is 1 on the 23rd December and has a lactose intolerance so is on lactose free formula. I am wanting to start giving him whole milk but not sure which milk I should give him? Anyone else have a lactose intolerant child? What have you given your child?

I am a 59 year old gramma of a 1 year old lactose intolerant baby boy. His doctor has his parents introducing whole milk by mixing it with his soy formula, and I feel very distressed about this. I'm seeing lethargy, constipation, refusal to eat, etc. Why are they playing games with an infant to see if they can make their theory of proving or disproving lactose intolerance at such a young age? And, does anyone here give their children vitamins? It seems verboten to even bring up the subject, but we gave our kids vitamins almost from birth on.

Lactose free milk can be a lot more expensive than soy. When I looked on the label I found that they use growth hormones on the cows to make lactaid.

My son will be 2 Dec 23rd and he is highly allergic to milk protein so we have him on soy (8th Continent) and just have to check all the ingredients when we make him stuff

My son is gonna be 1 yrs old on Dec 4th 2011... he is on Similac Sensitive for Lactose intolerance... my son's dr said when he turns a year old to just give him 2% lactose free milk... there isnt much difference between whole milk and 2% ... and my son is a big boy and has no problem with eating, so maybe if there are no other nutritional issues that should be fine??

We give our daughter The Lactaid or Wal-Mart brand Whole Milk. We are from a very rural area. I asked our local store if they could order it and they did. It costs me more locally than at wal-mart, but I don't have to travel at least 30 miles to get to a wal-mart. So, you might consider asking your local store if they can get the lactose free in for you. I did not like soy formulka with my daughter and do not want to do soy milk either. If the lactose free doesn't work, we will consider almond and rice milk next.

I give my son Lactaid Whole Milk. We tried Soy but he had problems with it. Works for me seeing as I'm lactose intolerant as well :). Also, a tip for when out and about, my son's doctor said that pediasure is fine for me to give him when we're out because it doesn't need to be kept cold til it's open. It's also handy to give at night if he hasn't eaten much during the day.

my friends little boy is lactose intolerant and soy is not good for boys because of the estrogen so she gives him almond milk

You could try Coconut milk. It is very nutritious. High in fat. And recommended for lactose intolerance. :D

thanks I think I will begin with the lactose free as it doesnt contain as much 'crap' if that doesnt work I will try soy. We only have a small supermarket so there isnt many choices.

My daughter is lactose intolerant like her dad and grandpa. We gave her vanilla soy milk and she doesn't protest.

It's really up to you. I heard lactose free milk is good. My friends son drinks it cuz of the same problem.
