My daughter had the white streak down her tongue too. Her's actually went away a few days after starting zantac for her acid reflux.
And to Stevie I have a ten year old too, just because you have older children doesn't mean you don't worry about your little ones. With my daughter something was actually wrong I'm glad I worried about it.

I agree with Rebeccah. You have a 10 year old.. you've done this before.. most of us are first time moms who call the doctor when our child has a baby pimple on his face. (Well I don't but you get the point) However I'm not worried about the stain on my son's tongue but maybe she has a reason to be concerned. I thought this web community was for encouragement. C:

It might be thrush...my little girl had it on her tongue and it was bad or anything and it didn't spread around her mouth like they say Thrush does...but when she switched formulas from advance to sensitive it gave her an allergic reaction. My pedi said it wasn't but I had a feeling it was...even though they say you can scrape and if it doesn't bleed it isn't thrush...not true..I could scrape hers and it wouldn't bleed so finally I got a swab test done and came back with yeast. (Which is Thrush)....they will will give you some stuff that you just squirt in their mouth and even if they spit it up...It still gets rid of it...It came off within a week...but don't worry..'cause I panicked just ask your doc for a swab test...

To Stevie Mata: Was that really neccessary? You obviously know moms worry about it if there's been several posts so why did you feel it neccesary to rudely comment about it? Yes there is need to worry what if the baby had thrush?

put a little bit of yogurt on your fingertip and rub it on her tongue, it will help cleanse it off

Mom's actually worry about this stuff? I've never even heard of this as a concern or an issue. I've got a 10 year old and a soon to be 4 month old at home. If it isn't a health concern you should just leave it alone. I couldn't even IMAGINE trying to shove a cotton ball in my daughter's mouth to clean her tongue! Or scrape her tongue with cheese cloth! All over the "unpleasant" sight. Give me a break...does anyone else think this is a little much? Its her tongue and she is 4 months old...give the kid a break.

If it isn't thrush...this is how you clean it. Get a cheesecloth and cut it into small squares and wipe it with that. The textured cloth gets it off much better. That's if the doctor has cleared it as not being thrush...

My baby will have a coating on his tongue for a little after he eats, but it goes away. The fact that you have tried to get it off and it wont come off sounds like the start of thrush. Thrush is a yeast infection, that can go back and forth between you and him. You should ask the doctor about it. I had a yeast infection on my nipples it hurts! Thankfully since I express my milk and give it to him in a bottle he never got Thrush. There is a ton of info on thrush including pictures if you just type it into a search engine. Good luck, I hope its just milk residue!

I have a 4 month old and have always been told that if u can scrape the coating off with your fingernail, and there is no inflammation or bleeding then it isnt thrush.....
with that bein said my sons tounge is CONSTANTLY coated and has a formula/milk smell to it... so we have made the orajel toothepaste and gum cleanser apart of our nitetime bath routine.... seems to help out a lot... good luck!

Oragel makes a baby tooth and gum brush and cleanser..it works really well. As for the water, my pediatritian said water isn't good for babies under 6 months, it fills the belly with no calories or nutritional value.. It basically takes up unwanted space. If the film doesn't come off with the cleanser I would have her checked for thrush, it looks like cottage cheese on the tougne, gums and cheeks.

My son had that for awhile, and it actually looked like a hard coating on his tongue. For him, it turned out to be nothing, but I agree with Belinda. Have it checked just in case.

My lil girl had that when she was younger, turned out she had thrush on her tounge. Go get it checked out because if it is it can travel through their system and make them sick.
