Pack-n-Play

Do you still use your pack-n-play? My mom seems to think my 14 mo twins are too big for a pack-n-play. I thought they might be to big if they get to the point where they can climb out. Quite frankly I would prefer them to be in the pack-n-play at her house since it's not child proofed. I'm afraid if they are in her care they might tumble down her ungated stairs.

Wyatt slept in our pack n play till 13 months. I think if you feel safer with it, then she should understand.

i still use my play pen for my 2 1/2 year old at times when I need a shower. I put him it it with a movie on and he sits there for the whole shower. So i would keep using it as long as it;s working for what you are doing with it.

As long as they can't climb out, there shouldn't be a problem. I use mine about once a day so that I can shower and know my 14 month old is completely safe.

I only use mine for sleeping when away from home all the time.

My 14 month old twins go into the pack-n-play when I take a shower.

I still use mine when ever I am by myself with my son and I have to take a shower or leave him alone for a minute or so he also naps in one at daycare. I will keep using mine till he figures out how to climb out of it!

maybe you could try a wall mounted gate. we use those on all of our stairs and it works wonderfully for my mom. She does not have to put it up or take it down, just open and close it!

I have bigger kids (9, and 10) we use the play n pack when we ungate the stairs, or can not watch him close enough. He is just starting to cruze the furniture, no fear of him climbing out.

We also use it to put things in that we want him to stay out of (baby out, big kid stuff in)

My son is 14 months old, and I gave my mother my pack and play I'd say 7 months ago. We didn't use it at home and I wanted to make sure he had a safe and secure place to nap any time we were visiting. At 14 months he's running around, climbing on everything (he can even get on top of the computer desk in seconds flat), but he still hasn't figured out how to climb out of the play pen. If you're mother has a hard time figuring things out like car seats and gates then the pack and play is probably the safest bet, unless they're confined to a single room with the door securely shut to make sure they're not able to get anywhere near the stairs on their own.

My 14 month, although very small, uses her pack n play for naps in the downstairs and that is what my daycare provider uses for naps also. It is best that the area be babyproofed and I would just do it yourself. Although I know that some grandparents would be put out by it. It is for the safety of the kids and if they want to have them there they need to provide a safe place. There are pretty easy walk through gates also.

I think that you should try to convinve your mother that a gate is for the safety of your babies and hopefully she will be on your side. i have several different gates at my house we have stairs that lead downward and a dangerous fire place area. we live with my mother in law for now and she wasnt thrilled with us have to drill into a cabinet of hers but we told her whats more important the cabinet or the babies safety needless to say the gates are up. there are gates that are about 12ft long and can bend and form around things or into a big circle. everytime we travel to someones house for a full day or longer we bring them with us. the safety of the babies should be the priority of everyone around you so if that means putting them in a pack in play them thats the way it has to be. hopefully your mom will understand that. good luck. and we also use the pack in play when needed.

I use my pack and play for my 13mo old for naps and when I'm taking a shower. I also use it when we go camping so I can put him in their while I unpack.

I still use mine for my 13 month old, but just in the basement where i don't want her crawling around.

Perhaps ur mother could get a gate? That is what my parents did so that they would be able to have her at their place, whether it be for the day or for a weekend.

Yeah, a pack and play is necessary for safety, I agree. We have also found these big palstic gates that hook together, very sturdy. We can make a big cirle with them so that our 14 month old may stay safe while I clean or whatever. My friend has a 2 year old and she has the same thing. She swears by it. I would ask your mom nicely to baby proof, if she is nt a fan of the pack and play most likely she won't use it when your nt around. With two as you know it is impossible for her to watch every second.

I don't even own a pack-n-play. My mom used one when the girls were little but now Alexandra and her cousin Evangeline are too active for it. Alexandra climbs into and out of everything and runs around the house the rest of the time and her cousin is now crawling. We have retired the pack-n-play at Mimi's house...at least for now!

I would think they would still be great for sleeping, though, or if your little one wasn't climbing and moving around so much.

Maybe instead of a gate in her house you could get one of those play pen thinggys...its like a bunch of gates puttogether and it makes a big circle for the children to play in, much safer than a pack and play if u have doubt about them not stayin in, and then she doesn't have to climb over a gate...it just opens up from the outside if she needs to get the kids out.

I don't have one, but my parents in law do, and I love it for putting my son down for naps. I'd feel bad to pen him up in it when he was awake, though. What about laying a chair sideways across the staircase opening? That's a low-tech babygate that we use everywhere we go. It works for my son, but I know some kids are too good at climbing.

I have not used my pack and play in prob 4 months, my lo is 14 months. If need be I would still open it up. As long as they cant climb out I'm sure they r fine, the only issue I can see is them having a fit if they r used to crawling or walking around. I know my son would prob scream the house down lol.

Good idea using the doc for an excuse! ;)

When we've used our gate here and Mom is around, she has to climb over it instead of opening it. She's only 4 foot 10 in.....it's hilarious!!! She uses one of stools! :)!
I'd use your doctor as an excuse and tell her the doctor told you that stairs are a problem and the children have to be contained or stairs gated. She chooses. My doctor does ask me about baby proofing anytime I go, so it's not too much of a stretch! :)!

Darlene she isn't mechanically inclined enough. Every time she watched them we had to undo the buckles on the seats because after being shown and told dozens of times, she still couldn't figure it out.

My son still sleeps in one at work (I'm a nanny and he comes with me). Ours isn't big enough for playing in.
Would she be open to you bringing her a gate to use when they are there?
