Just wanted to say hello to all my fellow december '09 moms out there :) Our little princesses and princes will be 2 before we know it!! I can't believe I have been following you all for that long!! Has anyone started birthday party planning yet? If so what is your theme, and if not what was the theme of your child's first birthday party? Did you go all out?! Can't wait to hear from you!!

I've been blogging for a couple months and I need some followers at
chrisstacicarter.blogspot.com

Thanks everyone and happy parenting :)

No need to go all out for first birthdays, as kids won’t be able to understand anything. The best thing would be to host a small and simple party by choosing a toddler friendly theme.

Party at either our house or my parents place (they have a bigger house) on dec 30th, her actual birthday. In the evening because I don't know very many kids and it's mainly all adults did the same thing last year and about 20 people came.

My daughter will be turning 2 on December 11th and we live in Florida. We are having her party at a nearby playground under a pavilion! We spent a lot of money for her first party on decorations and cake so this year will be more relaxed hopefully! The kids will be able to play on the playground and burn their energy off after cake! =)

Your posts have not gone unnoticed!!! I've tried multiple times to reply to each of you, but then the website freezes. It's very aggravating!

Went all out last year and spent hundreds of $$$$. NOT planning on doing that this time around. We moved away from all the family, so not sure where to do the party, but its going to be a small get together with a cars theme. he is crazy about cars! Lol should be fun

I've been thinking but he changes what he likes all the time. For his first party he was about as obsessed as a 1 year old can be on Mickey Mouse Clubhouse... So we did that. This year he just likes to watch " Your baby can read" or as he says "read...read... read.. READ!" He likes Yo Gabba Gabba, but being as he still doesn't REALLY get what's going on that well, I think we will just do a small family party, maybe a color theme, but I'll have to let you all know when I get there... I'm still working on halloween costumes right now! lol

My daughter is born on Christmas Day so we have Christmas in the morning and her birthday in the afternoon. It is one MASSIVE day! I will be doing what I did last year and have her cake and presents after her day sleep. She enjoys it more then! I live in Australia so will probably go down to the beach or find a park as she enjoys those activities. I will definitely be doing something for her to make HER day special. Christmas is for everyone but her birthday is for her and as her mum I am obligated to make sure she has a good time. On the plus side she will always get extra presents from relo's as we always see someone for Christmas!! :D :D

I love Old Navy costumes! Carter had the monkey one last year and it was so warm and affordable:) @ Tiziana-I'm jealous of your weather in Florida!!! I was thinking of having 'bug' theme party bring the warm weather to December! We live in Missouri so the weather is cold & snowy :/

@ Heather-I was thinking the same, maybe renting a space at BounceU! We have one nearby. LOVE the idea of inviting daycare/babysitter kids!

We have two small parties for our son. One in Florida where we live and one in Illinois where we have all our family. This year I'm thinking here in Florida either a pool party or Crazy frogs ( they have all bounce houses etc..) and in Illinois just cake with family. The theme I'm not sure yet, he does like Curious George so maybe I'll do that.

Kim you just reminded me I still need to buy costumes for Halloween. Old Navy has some really cute ones and they are warm, perfect for colder climates.

I have b/g twins and no room in my house to have a party. i was thinking of booking a Gymboree party and having some family, mostly young cousins. Also I was thinking of having the kids in my kid's daycare class come. Not looking for presents for them but want their friends to bring a toy for Toys for Tots. My kids have enough toys and I would much rather help out a child in need.

To answer my own questions and continue our mini thread- Carter loves Yo Gabba Gabba so I thought it was a no brainer to have a YGG themed party, but then I realized that a lot of our middle aged/older family has no idea what that is. I came across a wonderful idea that I've fallen in love with and will share you ladies! I LOVE crafting and plan on making as much of the bday decor as possible just for fun and to 'break the bank.' I love the idea of a bright spring time like theme bc we will celebrating during the cold snowy time of the year. My husband and I have large families (and his prents are divorced) so we celebrated 3xs last year. Our house is not large enough to accomodate all of them so I'm hoping to find a reasonably priced location to have it this year, and roll all three families into 1. Carter's first bday theme was baby animals and it was a lot of fun, but I can't do it three times again!

@Kim- LOL This question is just a tad early huh? It's crazy that I'm already seeing Halloween and Christmas decor EVERYWHERE! I guess I just have Xmas on the brain! It is my fav time of the year (maybe bc my bday is xmas eve).

@ Darlene-LOVE the sledding idea! we will always feel obligated to stay indoors due to the weather, but I love that idea to just coordinate the snow with the party :)

@Amanda-How fun?! A beach party, we are from Missouri and there was snow on the ground for our little guys party! I was thinking of a spring time theme this year, just to make it feel like it was that time of year rather than cold miserable winter!

We're having a party at home. We have 2 december birthdays (my older son is turning 4), so we are simply combining their parties for the next few years. I do 2 themes with 2 different cakes. I think we are going with Mickey Mouse and Dinosaur train this year. We have a little play room and if there's enough snow we are planning some sledding in the backyard!

I've been thinking about it, haven't really come up with many ideas yet. I have twins so I'm not really sure. I didn't do much for their first birthday, just had a few close friends over and family. I have to get through figuring out what i'm going to dress them up as for halloween.
