any bodies babies not standing alone without holding on to something? one of my twins is walking and the other is still crawling she will walk with her walker but has absolutly no interest in walking with me holding hands or she will not even stand alone without support, the walking im not worried about as i know she has plenty of time just though she would at least be standing aone without holding onto objects?

Every child starts at their own pace. If you constantly compare your child's development to others you will just drive yourself crazy. Every child is different and will development and hit milestones as so. If your son/daughter is'nt walking by now and you are worried they are behind do some things to help move it along. Take him/her for walks by holding their hands. And the main thing....Don't pick them up and carry them everywhere.

My daughter just turned 1 Dec. 21st and she didnt start letting go of things to walk until a couple of weeks ago and it just happened all of a sudden. one day she wouldnt let go of me and the next day she smacked my hand away when i was going to help her and she has been going nonstop ever since!!

My son started walking at 9 months and is running and jumping now (13 months). I think he started so early because he wanted to keep up with his sister (6 years).

I would try getting a walking toy for your baby and see if that helps.

My daughter is 13 months and she will pull up and walk around things but is still very wobbly when she is not holding on to something. She loves walking across the room holding on to someone's fingers and will do it just holding onto one finger, but she is much slower and more cautious holding only one. I have to agree with Kellie, she gets into enough stuff now, I'm in no hurry for her to walk...plus once she starts walking that means a little more of the "baby" part of my baby is gone :(

Once my daughter stood for a few seconds after I let go of her hands. But she does not try it on her own. She is very small though and was a preemie. She will be 14 months at the end of January but was 8 weeks early. So really 12 months. She will get there when she gets there. I am not too anxious she gets into enough stuff now : )

Neither of my twins are walking yet without their walkers and only one can stand up without anything and only for a short time...

My daughter took 2 steps the day before her first birthday (31 Dec) but since then hasn't attempted to try again. She can stand without holding on but panics and although she will hold on with only one hand she rarely lets go. She does walk holding 2 hands though and can walk holding only 1 when she doesn't realise but when she does she stands on the spot until you take both her hands! I;m sure your daughter will soon be wanting to catch her twin up and will start to walk. All babies are different and do things when they are ready.

My son is 13 months and cant stand alone without holding onto things, hes very wobbly and nercous, i bought him his 1st pair of proper fitted shoes and these seem to be helping him as he can nearly take a step while wearing them :)

my daughter was one on 31st dec and took her first step at 10 months and 5 days. İ thought she would be a late walker as she was an expert crawler but now 2 months later she walks, if not runs everywhere!!

my daughter is 13 moths and she is the same way. She will stand along the couch, coffee table, bed and move sideways along side of them but she will not try to stand or walk forward on her own. Now even when I try to help she is being stubborn about it and prefers to crawl. My 3 yr old was walking but the time she was 1 and I also have a 20 yr old son that was walking by one and his duaghter was walking at 11 months. all babies are different. If she wasn't at least standing well even with holding on to somehting then it might be an issue to discuss with your pediatrician but as long as she is trying she will get there when she is ready.

I expected my daughter to be an early walker. She took her first steps at 9 months but has only started to walk independantly a few weeks ago (is almost 13 mths). She would walk between furniture or would hold my hand. Whenever she stopped herself between where she set off and her destination she would panic and start crying! Standing still scared her (???). Eventually she started gaining more confidence and now is walking everywhere alone. My poor house plants have been given a workout...

I have identical twin boys, the bigger of the two is now walking across the room. His brother just started taking a few steps but is still hesitant to get moving on his own. He holds on to everything too, he doesn't like to free stand on his own. Give it a few more weeks, i'm sure she will catch up to her sister :)

Mine doesn't stand without holding on to something. He likes to cruise around, but he keeps at least one hand on a solid surface at all times.

Does she do other things 'better' than her sibbling? She might be more into fine motor activities, or talking. I just expressed concern about my son's walking abilities at a recent dr visit and she said they can only work on one thing at a time.
