strange noises

My Evan is 4 weeks old and since we brought him home, he makes wierd, high-pitched noises when he inhales sometimes - it seems to have gotten more frequent in the last week or so. Has anyone else experienced this? He's also been making a lot of whiney noises while sleeping - my mother in law suggests he's dreaming, but I worry that he's in pain or something. Any thoughts on this?

think about it, they have plenty to dream about, my husband thought our daughter did have anything to dream about to be dreaming, there brains have been working for what 6 months? they dream of what they hear, and my daughter makes that sound too. its normal.

Just had my third baby and he too does the same noise. you'll get used to it....nothing to worry about.

i've had 4 children, my youngest born on dec 11. with my first baby, i worried about the high pitch breathing to the point that i couldn't sleep. after noticing that my second did the same thing the worry stopped a little. i've had that experience with all of them, more so while they are eating. from what i've experienced, it's natural. there is nothing to worry about.

Our little Paige does something very similar, my poor husband can't sleep at night because it scares him so much (we have a co-sleeper). We were thinking dreams as well.

I have definitely heard that they do dream, though what they are dreaming about is a big question! In addition to the "dreaming" noises, Evan also makes high pitched noises when he takes a big breath in. That's mostly what I worry about . . .

My son also does that from time to time, but I haven't noticed it increasing in frequncy. Just today, my friend mentioned dreaming because my son was making some funny faces while sleeping. Would they be dreaming already?
