My son loves the water, He knows i hold onto him and he kicks and plays. I tried once to put him underwater and he either took a breath or freaked and came up gasping for air... How can i put him underwater without worrying about him inhaling water?

Theres not any swimming lesson type thing here...

with my son before we dunk him we blow in his face and he will take a fast deep breathe and then he holds it, so when he is under he isnt breathing in anymore. he comes up sometimes with a little cry but i think its more of the fast motion of dunking him.

Hello Hannah!
We have been taking swim lessons since my baby is 3 months old.
She now goes under water; here is how we got started: first go under yourself while holding him up above (make bubbles, funny faces, etc so he sees that's OK and fun) then when you thin he is ready for a dunk, blow (fairly hard) in his face so he holds his breath then give him a quick dip. After a few times of that (if he likes it of course), use 2 parents facing each other, about 3-4 feet apart; blow in your baby's face then "throw" him under water towards the other parent: he will most probably swim a little by himself...
My daughter swims under water with her mouth open so she always bows a little stream of water when coming out: too cute!
Good luck!

My husband and I had our 6 mo. old DD in a pool last weekend. She loved it and kicked all around. He actually put her underwater a few times. She gasped the first time then the others she laughed. She was actually putting her face in the water later. Just keep trying. I'm sure he'll grow to love the water.
