My little one is 10 months today. He is not a great eater. He is eating jarred baby food and we give him table food when we are eating and he does ok with it, apart from the funny faces when it's something new, but he always as a bite or two and then starts playing with it. Should I keep giving him baby food and keep trying the table food till he eats more ?? or should I just give him table food and if he's hungry he'll eat it. And I know every child is different but when they eat table food on avarage how much should a portion be ??
Any suggestions will be really appreciated, I'm a first time mom and very confused :)

My 10-month-old has no teeth, so I give her softer table foods and things that dissolve easily. She likes beans and soups, breads & cereals, fruit, soft-cooked veggies, yoghurt and cottage cheese, and shredded or ground meat. If our meal doesn't have much that she can eat, I include a jar of baby food as well. Since she still nurses a lot, I don't worry if she doesn't seem very hungry. Some meals she eats a full jar of baby food or several tablespoons of soup and a whole peach or something like that. Other meals she'll have three cheerios and two spoonfuls of baby food and everything else I offer her just gets mashed on her tray and face.

my 9 month old son never really liked baby food he would hardly eat it, in the past few weeks ive been giving him table food he will eat it just fine. when i try to give him the gerber graduates puff he will not eat it he will either spit it out or gag and throw it up, it doesnt matter if i cut in half or not. but when i give him a cheerio he does just fine. so i think he just does dont want any thing to do with baby food.

Thanks ladies. I have been giving him some table food and some jarred food every meal. Some things he seems to like a lot and eats plenty (toast, pasta, pancakes, green beans) other things is not liking (chicken, carrots). I cant give him stage 3 jars because he does not like the texture, so I give him stage 2. Hopefully he will start to like eating big boy foods more and more. Going grocery shopping tomorrow and plan on getting different fruits (he loves fruit) and vegi's ( doesn't like this much :)), that will be good for him to eat. And off to another adventure learning to eat.

My son's just over 9 months and we try to give him table food - well mashed potato (same as what we eat), he loves baked carrots (steamed first then baked whole), he'll chew on pieces of hard steak, eats meat chopped up in pieces, fruit in pieces etc. I'm told the more they learn to chew the better as it helps with speech development. My son still does eat a few things pureed though like some fruits in his cereal though and loves yoghurt.

I give our almost 10 month old finger foods on his tray and give him a chunkier puree from a dish. That way he has something to pick up in between bites that I serve him. That way I can eat whatever my meal is too. If at lunch I have a sandwich I'll pick apart a piece of sandwich meat and give it to him along with chunks of fruit or veg and some puffs (like sugar crisps but without the sugar). Our LO has issues with constipation and the added iron in the gerber puffs aren't helping. Last night we gave him some penne pasta cut into small pieces with a little bit of the sauce. I didn't think he'd like it because it was a little spicy but he loved it. He's breastfed so maybe that's helping him with new flavours. I think part of the problem might be from jarred purees it's a big leap to chunky table foods, maybe you can mix in some chunkier pieces into the purees and it might make the transition easier. Good luck!

My twin boys will be 10 months in a couple of days. I have been giving them table food for the last 3.5 months.I started slow.. first with carrots, then peas, potatoes, beans, lentils etc. Added on rice, chicken and egg yolk. Just overcooked , and roughly mashed.Started adding garlic for a few weeks ago. I suggest, to start off, feed your baby a serving of table food along side what he is used to and gradually phase it out. Portions... watch your baby for signs that he is full. Usually he would start fidgeting, or spraying food from his mouth! you could start by lets say one gerber bottle portion of table food, and keep anther ready just in case! don't worry if he refuses to finish his meal.. keep offering the same thing to him for 3 or 4 days.. once he starts to recognize the flavor he will eat. and feed him when he is hungry! It might help if he sees you eating the same thing you're giving him! :)

I just asked my doctor about this. She said, he eats what we eat. (she's very big on table food by 10 months) I asked how much and she said to feed him until he stops eating. If he doesn't eat much, he'll eat more the next meal. Sometimes, if I know he won't eat much of what we are having, I'll give him half a jar of baby food.
I have a 2 year old and I'm confused! :)! I can't seem to remember anything from my first!!
