My 12 month old has had a lot of ear infections. Now her doctor is finally sending us to a ear specialist. I'm really worried about it. Anyone else baby have or had this problem?

Did you breast feed your baby? I had heard that breast feed babies have a resistance to ear infections. I didn't breastfeed my first son and he had to have tubes in his ears twice and had many ear infections. Now I have a thirteen month old (who I breastfeed) and he hasn't had one yet.

I had tubes twice when I was a kid, nothing to worry about, quick and painless! Good Luck!

My son has had the same problem, we are sch. an appt for tubes on the 3rd. I'm a little nervous but ear infections have been no fun so this seems like the best option.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE TUBES!!! They are seriously awesome! It is kinda gross if stuff comes out of them but hey it's better than having to stay up all night with a little one that doesn't feel very good!

My little brother had the same problem when he was an infant, however over time it was discovered that if his tonsils were removed the ear infections would go away. Tubes in his ears did not stop the infections, in fact they made his ears ache worse.

My son will be a year old on 12/30 and he had tubes put in on the 16th. So far so good. It totally changed him. He talks a lot more, and just acts like he feels better. If your child has a lot of ear infections i highly recommend gettig them. They are so much happier when their ears don't hurt.

My daughter had chronic ear infections since she was 4 months old. Our pediatrician finally sent us to OTO after we finally insisted on it. I wish we would have put tubes in her ears sooner. She was almost 23 months old when she got tubes put it. She could talk and had words before the tubes, but her vocabulary just exploded after the tubes were put it. She started having full sentences. She couldn't hear before the tubes and that is why her vocabulary exploded when she could hear after the tubes. We tried a chiropractor too, but that didn't work. It was scary for the surgery, but it was over in less than 10 minutes. Good luck!

Try a Chiropractor. The eustachian tubes in a baby are short and at an angle so the fluid gets built up in them easier. A Chiropractor can adjust the childs neck and can also "adjust" the sinus' in the roof of the mouth and the cranials to help the fluid drain from the tubes. This can be preventative or also be done when there is a problem. My daughter is almost 13 months and has yet to have an ear infection. When she acts like they are bothering her I get her adjusted and so far so good. Even right now she has bronchialitis and a sinus infection but her ears are clear. It is an alternative to surgery and doesn't have the potential to scar the eardrum. Another thing that helps ears is to put some Sweet olive oil in them. You can get it in the pharmacy section at most stores. I know Wal-mart has it.

My son has had three ear infections, which might have been one that lasted for a few months. My doctor said that he doesn't recommend tubes unless absolutely necessary because the scarring of the eardrums can lead to problems later in life. My son hasn't had an infection in at least a month, so he's fine now.

My ex-step son, who is now 5, had tubes in his ears a little after his first birthday. We never had any problems with his ears after that.

My son now, turned 1 today, and he is on his 3rd ear infection, which I believe is still the first one, but has just lasted 3 months. The doctor put him on some stronger medicine, but if this doesn't help, I will be asking about tubes. I do believe they are best, and you shouldn't be worried for a second.

i had repeated ear infections when i was a child was very painful too i remember sitting up late at night crying i think i was about 6 or 7 when the doctor finally referred me to the hospital and from what i remember my mum telling me was that there was a build up of fluid in the ears from repeated ear infections so i had to have grommits now im 27 and everything is more or less fine apart from having a very slight hearing problem where i cant hear over background noise and if people done speak clearly or speak looking away from me but im healthy!

My son is 11 month old and we are also having the same prob with him having ear infections all the time. I thought I was doing something wrong but I am always putting a winter hat on him and his Dr. said it was not me just babies get them no matter if you have a hat on them. We are going to a ear specialist and I am a little scared but all my friends that have kids told me its the best thing to do.

I know this may seem random, but ask your dr to do a blood lab for allergies and specifically check dairy. My husband had chronic ear infections manifested by his dairy allergy that they didn't recognize until he was 3. He now has a 25% hearing loss due to the scarring from his ear infections! It isn't as bad as it sounds either, we've done 2 blood labs on my 11.5 month old for allergies and he showed dairy, which we kinda knew, but also egg and peanut which we can now avoid! =) Good Luck and she'll be ok with the tubes!

My daughter had the same issue. She got tubes put in on 10/29. It was SO fast and easy. I was really amazed at how quickly the surgery went. She was away from me for 5 minutes. My little girl did get a cold shortly after the surgery, but it didn't lead to an ear infection! She has not had a single ear infection since! I am so happy we got tubes.
