An old and safe remedy is to add a teaspoon of olive oil to baby's bottle for constipation. I did it with my 3 yr old when he was a baby, and as soon as he woke up from a nap he had a gigantic you-know-what. If that doesn't work, try coffee. It works for me. J/K

Give her plenty of cooled boiled water. It'll rehydrate her, constipation in babies is usually caused by dehydration.

Quoting Sandra:

Quoting Stephanie:

What kind of bowel movement does your baby have when she has them? Are they kind of hard and round like tiny marbles or is it soft and paste-like? My doctor and health nurse both said that if a bowel movement comes every couple of days but is still soft, it's not considered constipation. I was told it's constipation when the stool is hard and marble-like. So, if she's having soft stools every couple of days, I wouldn't worry about it. Otherwise, I've been told that glycerin suppositories work well when used short term. Good luck!

her bowel movement is dry not hard but its paste like sometimes she crys a little cuz she pushes so hard. And when she does go its very little not much at all?

My son pushes super hard and grunts and groans and cries... his face goes all purple too when he has a bowel movement.  But he usually has one 1 bowel movement every 24 hours, or every 48 hours.  His bowel movement size would be generally the size of 2 or 3 toonies.  I really hope you and your daughter get things all figured out.  Maybe let us all know what you ended up using if it works?  Thanks!

we used the coloxyl too for ours but it stopped working for her so did prune juice i dont think they sell coloxyl in the US i used parachoc from 6 months too but yours is too young for it. i forgot to mention the sugar in the bottle use about half a tea spoon or raw sugar, and what Clare said is right OJ works well and apple juice does too

you can use warm boiled water and orange juice its more natural than sugar, also if baby is on sma gold this formula does make baby constipated.

easy one, I have asked nurses about this myself because I have a baby who is a few weeks old. You make up a bottle with 30mls of boiled water and add half a teaspoon of brown sugar, then just feed it to her

Hiya.. I have an 8 mth old who still struggles and its been the same when she was fully breastfed and now formula/solids. I tried brownsugar and warm water to start with, then coloxyl from the chemist (it worked but we were going through tonnes and its expensive), then lactulose (wouldn't recommend it Paige struggled with tummy aches and wind), then finally got prescribed parafin. It's awesome. She has a teaspoon every morning and poo's every day now quite happily. If we stop it the poo stops too if she gets stuck we give her more. I have no idea how long we'll do it for, just as long as she needs it and she's happy! Hope this helps!

you can use prune juice 50 mills water to 20 mills prune juice and give up to 30 mills per day by bottle, or stool softeners from the pharmacy can be used form birth, plenty of extra water between feed, if formula fed add 5-10 mills extra water in the bottles, warm baths, lower tummy massage in a circular motion, and the vaseline on a cotton tip works well use it when you change her nappy. you can get suppositories from the chemist but i didnt use them on mine and she had constipation for nearly a year. maybe change of formula and eliminate iron from her diet and if using or planning on using rice cereal, dont.
