My daughter is 9.5 months old and she wakes up several times a night. I just had her 9 month appt. and my doctor said to let her cry all night. When I asked about checking on her he gave me a "do what you want" kind of look. I would obviously check on her and turn her music on. Does anyone have any other suggestions because letting a baby cry all night seems kind of cruel?

My oldest daughter is almost 17 months, and STILL waking up through the night. I asked my pediatrician and she said the same thing, let her cry it out. I thought, I can't do that to my little girl, and 8 months later she still wakes up! I also have an almost 4 month old, and I learned my lesson..if at 6 months she is still waking up, it's a great thing to let her cry herself back to sleep! Happy sleeping!

It's not kind of cruel, it's totally cruel! At this age I would suspect teething pain. Perhaps try giving her a teething medication before she goes to bed and then again when she wakes and see if it makes a difference. Otherwise it is possible that she is actually hungry or thirsty in the night, so feed her.

it may seem cruel but she wont cry all night she will eventually fall asleep, but if she doesnt have u tried feeding her baby cereal right before bed. try not giving her a nap once she will more than likly stay asleep all night. i just recently got my almost 3 yr. old to start sleeping all night. we moved back home and when we did hes sleep schedule got all messed up cuz he slept all they way here and hs sleep schedule was messed up for over a year. he would fall asleep at like 8 pm and wake up about 12 1 am and be up all night and with me working and being pregnant i was to tired to get him on the right sleep schedule and since ove been on maternity leave  i was able to work with him and since halloween hes been on a sleep schedule. and one thing that really helps is play with her right before bed and wear her out.
