I heard it's dangerous for your baby to sleep in bed with you because you can smother them. How old should they be before they can and how should you set the bed up so you dont smother them?

I really don't like the idea of my daughter sleeping with me in my bed. I just feel like it is an uncontrolled environment and I like to be in control In her crib, I took the necessary precautions to make sure she was safe, and In my bed, there just seems like there are a lot of things I have no control over that could harm her. I won't let her in my bed until she can get in and out of it without hurting herself and won't be hurt, just annoyed if the blankets get on her face, or her dad rolls over onto her. lol.

The fact that my cousin's baby fell off the bed made me feel better about Kylie being in a crib. I like it that way and she falls asleep with minimal effort on my part, just get her wrapped up, and stick her in there with a few pats on the butt and she's out until 5 am when we all wake up to get ready for the day.

There's this amazing thing that my friend just gave me. It lets the baby sleep inbetween you and your partner saftley at night without worry of smothering or hurting ur baby. The sides of this thing are extremely hard plastic (but covered in fabric so as not to hurt the infants head) so that if u roll over u roll onto the hard part, and its so hard it wakes u up. saving u from rolling onto ur baby! :) Here's the url link to the item. I'm not entirely sure what it's called, lol. If you can't click the link, go to "Learning Curve.com" and look up "the first year" and look up sleeping stuff and u'll find it. or just copy and paste the url to the toolbar. Good luck everyone!! :D

when my son was younger we used to fall asleep with him in bed in the day on rare occassions ..
he's 10 months old now and when he's screaming and just won't settle i bring him to bed with me .. i tuck my arm underneath him ..
again this isn't all the time and usually at nap times.

I let my baby sleep with me and my husband and i think it is ok he loves it and i also sleep with him in my arms. But i do make sure that he will sleep in his bed aswell because i don't want him sleeping with us forever.

I dont really think there is a right way to set up the bed. I also put my arms around all of my kids when they were babies and they slept in our bed. Usually my kids would go to sleep in their cribs, wake up around 3 am and then i would just bring them back to bed. Ive also been guily of laying the baby on my chest (holding them) and going back to sleep like that. I am a very light sleeper , so i guess thats why that works.

i was totally guilty of letting my newborn sleep in bed with me and my boyfriend. i just layed her in between us. i kinda proped her in my arms and fell asleep while we cuddled together. she still sometimes sleeps with me. she refused to sleep in her crib awake and if she woke up and realized she wasn't with us, she would freak. she is getting better though :)
