My 11week old baby boy has put himself into a routine and i've followed his lead, he has a bath around 6-630 a breastfeed and then settles to sleep generally at 7pm. Which is all good but when we have functions to attend like bday dinners etc he doesnt settle well and i get stressed... does anyone have any ideas on how to adapt his routine on nights we have to go out i dont wanna be a hermit at night forever :)

I think twice we've gone out with our son way past his bed time. The first time, we brought him in his pajamas before we headed out, I fed him at his normal feed time and let him sleep in the carseat. When we got home, we just left him in his carseat, figuring we'd just move him when he woke up (go figure this was the first time he'd slept through the night. The second time, we weren't expecting to be out so late. We were at the mall so I fed him at the mall and changed his diaper, got home and just put him straight to bed without even changing his clothes. Both times, we had to forgo the bath.

Thanks for your feedback! This is what i had thought to do, have lunches or early teas or host dinners, but sometimes felt like im letting family down but i try to make them see that its me who will be up all night with a overly tired frustrated baby if he doesnt follow his routine so im glad others mums feel the same way!! oh and yeh he's purely breastfed :)

I've already told friends and family to expect us to be at fewer events, or for us to start hosting instead of taking our little one out so much. My friends who tote their kids everywhere have kids who don't sleep through the night and have very disrupted sleep patterns. I plan on keeping my 11 week old stationary, with a solid sleep routine in his own home, own bed.... but that's a personal lifestyle choice. I realize we're missing out on a lot - we're just going to spend more $ on sitters but have a better rested kiddo I hope. Good luck!

You won't be a hermit forever before you know it you will be fighting your child to go to bed then to stay in bed then all their excuses for not going to sleep. You may be stressed or have to leave things a little early but enjoy this, before you know it he will be all grown up and not want to even snuggle at night... Good luck

is he purely breastfed? it's hard to leave your baby if he's used to that..you can change the routine gradually..first, letting others take care of him..then everything will follow..
