i had my son 8 months ago and am just now looking to get on birth control. i was looking into mirena but i've read some bad stuff about it and i don't want anything permanent. i want to be able to have kids right away after having it removed. i've never been on any form of birth control but i know i don't want to pill cua i won't remember to take it, i don't want to nuva ring cuz that's just weird, and i don't want the shot cuz i don't want to gain weight. i don't think there's too many more options out there. my question is how long did it take to get pregnant after having mirenda removed?

I have been looking at birth control options too. So far, Mirena has my vote as the best form of birth control and I'm going to talk to my OB/GYN to have it inserted at my next apointment. I have tried the pill, the ring, and the shot. I liked the ring, I found it to be convenient but my boyfriend said he could feel it. If it wasn't for him being able to feel it, I would use it again. So, since I have had a baby and can now have an IUD, I'm going for it.

Hi Ashley, I'm not sure where you're located but I've been using the Evra patch, and used it before I tried for my son. I love it! It's not invasive or have any serious concerns. You wear one patch each week and then on your period week you're off.

Ashley,

I used the Mirena for 5 years and LOVED it!!! After two months, I didn't have a period at all (and how many of us would enjoy that?!). It took only 5 min. to have inserted and 15 seconds to remove (5 years later). Within 1 month of removal, my husband and I got pregnant. I would recommend the Mirena because it takes the worry out of remembering to take a pill every day (I'm horrible) and it's so EASY to remove (at any time) if you decide to have another child. I hope this helps...I'm a big fan of the Mirena! In fact, I'm planning to use it again after my daughter is born!

The friends I have that use Mirena had a really bad time with that BC! Everyone of them had it removed and switched to a different BC because of the abdominal pain, the bloating, etc. I was on the shot for many years and it was great at first. I didn't gain weight on it at all but after a year or two I started having a period almost every day for two months at a time (not heavy, just spotting but annoying none the less). So I switched to the patch. The patch CAN sweat off, the edges come off in the shower, sometimes the whole patch would come off in the shower. I could only wear it in two spots not the many they said I could. Plus, you don't get the same amount of birth control each day so that can actually allow you to get pregnant depending on your body! I finally ended up on Yaz. I loved it. I decided to stop taking BC so my husband and I could conceive and it only took a month. I am the type of absentminded person who would forget a pill even if my life depended on it...and sometimes I forgot to take the pill but I was fine. I highly recommend Yaz to anyone looking to swtich BCs!! Oh yea, I didn't have any weight gain on Yaz either, no mood swings or anything crazy like that. Again, highly recommend Yaz!

You can get pregnant right away, but some people take about 3 months to get pregnant. But that is the adverage for almost every type of b-control. I would ask my doctor, who is probley more knowledgeable about you and the different b-controls out their. Your doc is the best person to help pick the right one for you. I was on mirena and didnt have any problems with it. In fact I stopped having my period after 3 months. But like I said talk to you doc about it!

I am on low ovral pill. After having my daughter I was not good at remembering. I set my cell phone now to remind me to take it everyday and it has worked so far.

I was on the pill for a few months after I got married but it was sooo hard to remember to take it every day. After that I decided to try the Nuvaring and I've was on it for a little over two years when my hubby and I decided it was time to start trying to get pregnant. I got pregnant THREE WEEKS after I stopped using it! You don't have to have any periods either, just insert a new one after you take the old one out! Oh and my husband and I don't even feel it when we getting it on and lets just say he's of a good size lol :) (I don't feel it at all under normal circumstances anyways). Its the best!

thank you all so much for your advice. i think i'm going to try the mirena and if it doesn't work for me i'll just get it taken out and use condoms:( even though i hate them, but i'll do whatever i can to not get prego right now. i love my son very much but i'm not ready for another one. i want to enjoy him:)

Well everyone I know that is on the mirena has a problem with their bloating and gut. I do have a friend that got pregnant on the mirena also. I didn't want the mirena bc it still has hormones, so I tried the regular IUD, and that didn't work for me, my body was rejecting it and pushing it into my tissues, which would have made it pointless as a form of birth control. I am in the same boat trying to figure out what to use, since I am still nursing I don't use anything with hormones, just condoms at the moment. I saw all the replies and really the one thing we need to remember is that nothing is 100%, so if you try the mirena and it works for you, the only thing I can say is to make sure you are checking for your strings quite often!

well i got pregnant on the shot and the nuva ring. So i would not reccomend either. I am currently using the merena IUD and I love it. It can be taken out whenever I choose and I can get pregnant right away. Not sure what you have heard about the merena but it you don't want an IUD there is an implant that goes in your arm. It is the size of a tooth pick and can be taken out at anytime as well... The IUD I felt a little cramping for the first cuple days but then had my period on an off for a month. Now I have been period free ever since. Its been 3 months. I dont feel it while having sex and neither does my husband. I vote for the mirena and trust me when I say I have tried just about everything.

If you are in a permanent relationship, think about using natural fertility. It is great and not like the old style methods used years ago. It is 99% effective if you use it properly and you are taking no chemicals, just observing your temperature first thing in the morning and your mucous during the day. The only downside is that you need to abstain from sex for a few days (depending on your cycle) each month. Your partner can also take part in helping avoid pregnancy. The method helps you understand what is going on in your body and helps you conceive when you want to and of course you can get pregnant straight away. I used it for 5 years with no worries.

I am on the ortho evra patch. You get 3 in a pack and you wear each one for a week. It cleared up my skin and stopped the weight gain that was happening when I was on the pill. It didn't take me long to get preggers after stopping the patch. Good luck!

One good birth control option is an IUD, Its an implant that is inserted into the uterus that stays there until removed from your doctor - so there is no remembering anything and when my husband and I decided to have another child, i went to the doctor and he removed it, i was pregnant within two moths after that.

I take Yaz and it's by far the best BC I have ever taken. I swear I've tried every pill out there and this is awesome. Like Rachel said, it's like you don't even have a period anymore. I don't think I can find a single bad thing about it. All I have to sy is give it a try, if it doesn't work then at least you know! I wish you luck in your decision.

I swear by Yaz..yes it is the pill, but all the benefits of taking it are so AWESOME, it makes you want to remember to take it faithfully every day..I suffered from horrible pmdd..cramping (felt like contractions as if I was in labor),heavy cycles, the bloating, irratability, the long heavy cycles...so when I heard about this, I couldn't get to my doc. fast enough..and on top of fixing all of the above for me, its birth control!! so this def. works for me!! i've heard from women that didnt suffer from what I had, who more or less had regular cycles, that when they started taking Yaz, it pretty much made their cycles nonexistent..(they would have a period maybe 1 or 2 days out of the month at the most )and NO symptoms at all...it was like any other day for them..I definitely think this pill is worth remembering to take every day!!
