I am the mom of a five week old baby boy. I am alittle concerned about his hearing. He doesn't seem to flinch or use any reflect moves when making loud noises. Just want to know what age to get his hearing checked. Any advice?

My son failed his initial hearing test at the hospital when he was born but when I took him back for the second one at 2 months he passed it just fine.

I wouldn't worry yet. My son was pretty oblivious to a lot of sounds too and then all of a sudden would startle if I sniffed. In my state they have to do a hearing test right at birth (at the hospital). I take it they didn't do that with your baby? Otherwise, to put your own mind at ease, just ask your pediatrician to check at the next well baby visit.

They usually do a hearing test before the baby leaves the hospital. My son was the same way when he was that young and the pedi said its normal, they can sleep through anything, and his hearing was fine. I would say if you are concerned talk to your pedi about it, and maybe they will check his hearing

if you are worried i would just ask your pediatrician at the next appointment but i dont think there is anything to be concerned about right now. my son is 6 weeks old and he doesnt even flinch when i run the vacuum right next to him or when our 70 lb dog barks like crazy. my son also had to have a hearing test when he was at the hospital. you could call the hospital and check to see if they did one or check the hospital discharge papers for your son..they had it on there for my son.

In my state, Delaware, they test all babies hearing at the hospital before you leave. My daughter passed one test and failed one so I have an appointment next week to get her tested again. They do it here really early. You can look it up for where you live.

My daughter failed the newborn screening twice and had a Bera test done that showed she has a 60 to 80 percent loss in both ears. They are doing a repeat test in two weeks but don't expect it to change. They are fitting her with hearing aids.

Thank you all so much for your advice. His hearing was checked in the hospital and he passed. But just noticed recently that any sounds made behind him he would not respond to. I will definitely bring it up with his doctor. You all put my mind at ease until I can.
