Hi Ladies!

I have been reading the "Baby whisperer" and have attempted to follow her E.A.S.Y routine with little success. Lily is 5 weeks old and is struggling to nap in the daytime. She is going through a bit of a growth spurt right now so she's a bit cranky and clingy anyway but I really need her to have a good 1 and a bit nap morning and afternoon, withoug using a prop like a dummy. Any advice would be very much appreciated!

It's been a while since I had a baby that young but we used to feed him before a nap and then hold him so that he was right up just about over our shoulders and walk up and down the hallway slowly. He found that comfortable and the pressure on his stomach helped the gas come up. We would wrap him and then hold him and walk or rock on our feet and hum quietly for 5-10 minutes. Little babies are soothed by vibration and noise so nestle the babys head under your throat and when you hum, the vibrations go into their head and relax them. When our son's head dropped onto our chest, we would put him in his cot, so he was still awake.

I understand what you mean. My baby just turned 2 months and when he's home with us he didn't sleep long unless I was next to him. I started swaddling him and it helped. Try playing some soothing music might help too. At the daycare center they play music while he naps.

I would suggest to do the swaddling. I swaddled my son until he basically was able to get out of it. I found swaddling to be very calming and relaxing for my son. He would startle himself and that was the end of naptime but when I started swaddling him he started to take longer naps. I hope this helps. Good luck!!

i still wrap my 4.5month old..its the only way i kno she wil sleep 4 more than 10mins

your bub might not need much sleep is she in a foul mood or is she fine with the little naps? my girl has only ever had 40min naps n only 4 times a day at a month old!!

you could try if you dont want to give them a dummy, a blanket or toy as a comforter??
Good Luck

I have been swaddling my 8 week old for every nap and at bedtime and i find it relaxes her. She now knows that once she is wrapped it's time to sleep. I've heard that it makes them feel secure. I buy the Halo brand sleep sacks with the swaddle attached at Babies-R-Us also Kiddopotamus Swaddle Me also at Babies-R-Us. They also help prevent SIDS. Hope this helps.

My advise to you is not to take books or any advises to serious....trust your instinct and common sense. Follow your child! Use tips from the book but do not get fustrated if you can not set a rigid routine yet....Trust me...let your child go with the flow with nature....and she will help you to establish the right routine for her at the right time!

You can get really thin muslin wraps from baby shops. They should be nice and cool.

Thanks for the help ladies (I love Circle of Moms). Can still swaddle her when it is this hot? If I just put a nappy on her then swaddle her would that be ok? I don't want to overheat her!
ARGH! So much to learn and know! This parenting malarky is not easy!
