I am pregnant and recently read some research that suggested women should be eating peanuts during pregnancy and that not eating them could actually cause their babies to develop allergies etc. What does everything think?

rofl no I don't think that eating peanuts will cause allergies. I ate peanuts throughout my pregnancy, peanut butter, peanuts in chocolate etc and my son has no problems.

you know, I've only ever heard of nut allergies since moving to Canada.
When I was growing up I remember having nuts when I got teeth.
Eat the nut butters if it's something that you eat already and don't worry so much about the allergy. I have been eating almond butter now for a few days just to make sure that my son's alright, but I ate all that when I pregnant and even before.
Good luck!

I had gestational diabetes while pregnant with my son, who is now two and I lived on peanut butter sandwiches. The doctor told me to eat them when i was craving sweets. My son has no allergies yet and loves peanut butter. hope this helps!

I ate peanuts during both pregnancies and breastfeeding. My kids don't seem to have allergies. I'm a vegetarian, so the protein from peanuts was important to me.

mmm i luv peanuts!!! I eat lots of trail mix with peanuts in it. I think it would be really good for the baby to have peanuts during pregnancy...It gives lots of energy which can contribute to healthy growing!

As for allergies, I don't think eating or not eating nuts will do anything. You can't take penecillin during a pregnancy, some people are allergic to it (like myself) and some people aren't. It's just something that the body prefers.

I don't think I ate peanuts when I was pregnant with my first son and he doesn't have allergies. I ate them the second time around, and so far I haven't noticed anything with him yet.

I ate a TON of peanut butter with each of my girls. The first two have no food allergies and we just found out that the third is allergic to peanuts, milk, and egg whites. Although I can eat all of these things and she drinks my breast milk just fine. So, I don't think there's any connection between whether you eat peanuts or not. If the kid is going to have allergies, they're going to have them. I also don't buy into the idea that breast feeding means your child won't have allergies. My first two girls were exclusively breast fed up to 4 mos and then had breast milk and formula. My third one (the one with the food allergies) has been exclusively breast fed the whole time (she's now 8 mos). In fact, I have a sneaky suspician that because she never had exposure to formula (milk based) that this may have prevented her from building a tolerance and thus caused the allergy.

No because I'm allergic to them, but wouldn't have even if I wasn't. It's one of the foods you're not supposed to eat while pregnant.

Peanut butter was the only thing that i craved when i was pregnant. I needed to have it in some form everyday! I am not sure if this has had any affect on my little guy as he is not old enough yet.

I have heard that you arent suppose to eat peanuts when prgnant because it would cause an allergy because they would be receiving the peanuts when their immune systems are not developed enough to hanlde them.

I think it really depends on who you ask, what you read and who your doctor is. All information is so different. Between me and two friends- we were all three told completely different things to eat and avoid when pregnant! Our parents did it in the older times and no one told them what to eat. i think that most of us turned out well!

I ate a lot of peanut butter when I was pregnant. Though in the UK it is one of the don't list food items like soft cheeses we have her in the US. Another tip, don't eat peanuts or peanut butter when nursing, the baby will have painful gas.

you can eat can eat peanuts cos they have good essential oils but children shouldn't until they are 4, they develop antibodies from you, things that should be avoided are soft cheeses, soft serve ice, precut salads raw meat/seafood Smoked meat/fish, been/seed sprouts self serve food bars, large fish species like swordfish should be kept to 1 serving a fornight other then that all other seafood should be eaten at least 3 times a week

I had cravings for peanut butter, and had it almost every day. I think the more we dont expose to our kids the worst. I just avoided seafood and soft cheeses other than that my diet was pretty much the same as when i wasn't pregnant.

I ate peanuts during my first pregnancy because we have this beliefs that eating peanuts during pregnancy can help your baby's brain develop more. It also helped me avoid constipation during pregnant.

Yes I did eat peanuts while pregnant. My son is fine never had a allergy. Every child is different. I know moms who did eat peanuts during pregnancy and their child developed peanut allergie as a result.

i was told that peanuts and peanut butter are recommended during pregnancy because of that too, but was also told that you shouldnt eat them while breast feeding because that could cause peanut allergies. so yes during pregnancy and no while breast feeding

I ate so much peanut butter it was crazy, same with normal peanuts. I used them to get the extra protein since large stock fish was out.

With my first pregnancy I ate toast with creamy peanut butter all the time. It was what I had to have lol. My daughter has no allergies. I do however have a really good friend who is deathly allergic to some nuts. So I know nut allergies can be really serious. Ask your doctor or midwife for there advise, and go from there.. Good luck!

Not peanuts, but all others coz I don't really like peanuts. The less you worry about allergies the less stressed you will be as a mother. Relax. They ate nuts in the old days...and people were fine.

I didn't avoid them either. I had to have my PB and jelly. If you sit there and pig out everyday on them, it may be a problem, but I don't think a few will do anything. Remember, they always say; everything in moderation. Well, peanuts too, right???

I also could not get enough of peanuts (nuts in general to be honest with you....walnuts, pecans, cashews, peanuts, chocolate peanuts etc etc).....I ate them all the way through my pregnancy.
Whilst pregnant my midwife told me to continue eating them, as (like you say) not eating them can cause babies/children to have allergies.
