I wouldn't be offended for alot of people commenting on a babys rolls is a way of saying how cute they are. Believe me if your child was over weight no one would say a word to you about it!

I used to hate that with my daughter....they would always comment on her cheeks...it drove me crazy. I finally started to say I'm glad she has meat on her bones..I would hate to see a skinny baby, it would help sometimes.

I agree. My baby isnt chubby either, but her face finally started to widen out and now people make the same kind of comments. I feel the same way, its rude!

Babys are supposed to have meat...getting upset about people commenting on his size is only going to give the poor kid a complex. My son is HUGE not fat but i still hear hes a chunka and I agree. Getting all defensive isnt healthy be glad people arent like wow hes skinny that would be a dig if i ever heard one. your response should just be"Yeah, hes a good eater."

When ppl say my baby is a "chunky little one" i take it as a compliment. My baby was a preemie and is 8 pounds and almost 2 months old. she's not chunky at all, just her cheeks. I like hearing it though.

hi..my babies who are now 4yr old 2yr old & 5 months were all nice size new borns 8 pounds 2 oz was my son & both daughters was 7 pounds 6oz they all was chubby when baby's everyone called em 'buddah babies' it annoyed me heaps then i realised they will lose the "baby fat" when they crawl & walk like my 2 eldest have...my little girl leah rose 5months is a 'chubba bubba' but im not worried she will loose it i would not take any notice of the ppl callin u baby that coz its better 4 them to have a little "chubbiness' to em then none at all espesially when they get sick....

OMG i hate it when people say that my baby is "big" or "chunky" i find it kind of rude and the worst ones about it are women...other moms seem to be more critcal and judge you as a mother when they say it to you.You know they give you that look.I know she is a little chunky because she is just a baby. You wouldnt turn to another adult who is a bit chunky and say " man you're a big one" or " you are a chunky one aren't you" It's just rude and really if that is what you think you should keep it to yourself!!

My daughter is at the 90 percentile for weight and has been since 3 months. I don't mind at all when ppl make remarks regarding her weight. I tell them she is healthy and I adore every roll on her and she many rolls. My older daughter now 3, was the same way and is now a string bean. Ppl don't think any thing of saying chubby or chunker when it comes to babies, because most are :-)

My baby girl is 15.9 pounds and 3 months old so I'm ALWAYShearing how "chunky" she is or that she's "such a big girl" gets a bit annoying but I let it ride cause I think of it just meaning she's healthy!

Im sorry your feeling are hurt, but most of the time people are not trying to be mean, it is very normal for babies to have baby fat, my son is not fat he is just right actually pretty thin, but because the way his legs look I call him sumo baby, but its all in love and endearing, we love it and think its cute!

Maybe tell those people in a kind way that it hurts your feelings or is offensive, Im sure they will understand, and even apologize, for not realizing what they were saying was hurtful.

Hope this helps.

Forgot to mention, the only thing Im a little sensitive about is my son has a big head, its in the 98th percentile and once in a while someone will mention it, but a babies weight is never meant to be mean, everybody loves baby fat, its cute and normal, someone mentioned that you would never say that to an adult, well its not healthy for an adult to be a "chunker" but it is for a baby!

People love fat little babies, so I don't find it offensive at all. I know my son's a little butterball. He's 20lbs at 5 months and in the 97th percentile for both weight and length. He was 7lbs 13 oz at birth and was almost 15 lbs at his 2 month check-up. His doctor said, "Well, he sure knows how to grow!" My first son was, and still is, a stringbean. So, I'm enjoying having my little man's rolls to play with :-)

Quoting Sara:

The funny thing is that people think it's OK to comment on your baby's size, but they would never say that about you! No one would ever say to another adult "you're such a chunker!" That would be rude, right? So what makes it OK to say about a baby? My boy is off the growth carts, so we get "he's a BIG boy" all the time. As long as they are healthy, it does not matter!:)

THANK YOU!!! i was thinking the same thing!

Yes. I hate this. People always tell me my baby is fat or "shes a big one" and finally I got sick hearing ppl say this and I turn around and tell them, actually she is kind of smaller than a lot of ppls kids I know. Shes normally at least 5 pounds less than them. I agree with you tho, this is a little offensive.

my little one is big for her age and people comment on that all the time...she's 11 weeks old and is bigger than some 4 month olds we've seen... but i'd rather have a bigger baby because if she were to get sick, she'd recover better than if she was little

i don't get offended at all my lil girl is in the 100% for both height and weight so when people ask how old she is or guess how old she is and then i tell them her real age they always call her a BIG girl or a Chunker and it may not be true because she is perfectly proportioned only part on her thats fat is her thighs. but i have to say that i call other peoples babies chunkers as well! i don't ever mean it in a mean way or anything its just a saying i use as a term of endearment because it usually means that they are healthy. but i have to say i do not call babies fat because that is offensive. chunky means healthy!!

One of my nicknames for my son is Chunkey Monkey Buddha Man! He is a pretty chubby little man but I don't mind if people comment on his thunder thighs. I just tell them that at least I know he's eating properly and he's healthy. Plus babies tend to be chunky because they aren't mobile. I know he'll lose the chub once he starts crawling and walking :)

[deleted account]

I think that many people use chunker as a term of endearment. My best friend uses it all the time and to me it's just like saying sweetie pie or cutie. If it really bothers you thought then maybe you can just politely say, "I don't like that term."

I take offense too! My little guy ain't so little...but by no means is he fat, and ppl are always commenting. I immediately tell them what I think! There have been seven babies in my family between December and May and mine is the biggest, not the oldest or the biggest when born, but he is a big boy. As far as I'm concerned he's the healthiest. Babies are supposed to be chubby, they need room to grow. That's why they call it baby fat!

My baby is in the 50% percenttile for weight and height but people think she is so petite is the word they use. She is an average baby. It's all in people's opinion. She's always been that size and they just started saying it now.

Both mine have been big chubby babies 1st 10lb at birth 2nd 9lb 4oz but i think its a compliment when people call them chunks and i love their rolls. I also think if there poorly or anything you dont need to worry so much if they go off their food compared to a little 5lber for instance.
I love my chubby babies, wouldnt have them any other way!

People always make comments about my son. He's in the 96th percentile for weight, so yes, he's a big boy. As soon as they find out he's not even 3 months, they're like "Oh wow, what a big boy!" and I feel like my doctor thinks he's overweight. What can I do about it though? I'm not gonna starve the kid! When I look at him, I don't see him as "fat". He's solid. He hardly has any rolls, except his thighs, a bit of a buddah belly, and a couple rolls on his arms. He has really chubby cheeks though but I think that's adorable. I'm proud of my little chunkster and I don't care what others say :)

Don't worry about it - my little girl has rolls on her arms and legs and when people tell me she's big or chubby - I just say that there is more of her to love! And she is chubby, but she is happy & healthy and that's all that matters!!
