my baby was tongue tied and it was discovered on her first visit to the pediatrician at 8 days old. He used a scalpel and cut it right away in his office. i immediately put her to breast and she was fine. breast feeding up to that point had been very painful, but it was better right away after her tongue was clipped.

I took my son to a surgeon and had his tongue clipped so that he could suck his bottle and such. It was a hard decision b/c it hurts, but it was best. He still has a lisp from it. Also just fyi it should be a surgeon who does this, there is a major artery under the tongue. Most pediatricians won't do the procedure

Hi Chrissy, she is having a procedure done on Thurs, just hope that it helps with her feeding and I have made the right choice. Your response has eased my doubts, I know it needs to be done.

its best to get it snipped to prevent speech and feeding difficulties in the future. its best to do it under 4 months and the child will barely feel anything its a very simple procedure. no anacetic or anythign needed.

Hi Kass. My little girl (5 months now) had a tongue tie. I took her to the pedi who said it was my decision since it wasn't so bad, I did take her to a surgeon. I thought it was just a consultation but he said he would do it that day. They rubbed some pain relieving gel under her tongue, clipped it and I automatically gave her a bottle and she calmed down. I'm not going to lie, she did cry and there was blood but I think she was more scared then anything and it was harder on me then it was for her. I would have it done again and again. She ate fine right after and has not had any problems because of it. Good luck and let me know if you have any questions that I missed. Oh it was an in office procedure.
