My little girl isnt old enough yet, but someone i know has a little girl who is 9 months old, and has a horribleee ! diaper rash, she says its because shes teething, i think its because she dosent take care of her enough. I sometimes see her with her diaper sagging down to the ground for hours and dosent be changed, i think its becasue of that, not because of teething. You thoughts?

My son gets diaper rash everytime he gets a tooth. But thats the only time he gets it and it only last about a day or two.But ya, if her diaper is so full its sagging for hours that would cause it too and it would be more of a constant thing.

Yeah I think it is possible. My daughter has a very mild rash and she's teething. She never has her nappy on long enough to have it be caused by wees or poos!
It's a hard area to get into. On one hand it's horrible to watch a bub that you think is suffering because of not having her nappy changed enough, on the other hand, you have to tread really carefully as noone wants to be challenged on the hygiene standards of their children!! Fingers crossed that the incidents you saw where just a few isolated times. I guess if you wanted to go there, you could just encourage her by saying "Ooooh someone needs a nappy change!!! Look at that bulging nappy!!" in a really happy tone!!!!! Just remember, that nappy rash can happy to anyone. I once had a friend tell me that cradle cap was a result of not washing your baby's hair... Whatever?!?!! She obviously never had a baby with cradle cap!

They actually can get a diaper rash from teething but obviously if this little one always has a soggy diaper than that isn't the only problem. You could politely mention when she needs a bum change. Just pick her up and pretend you were going to play with her then say "oh she has a soggy diaper mom" and hand her to her mom and hopefully she will get the hint without getting offended. My friends ex did the same thing with her kids all the time too and thats what I did and it seemed to get the point across without causing a fight.

Quoting Donna:

Quoting Jamie:

It is possible for them to get a diaper rash when teething. I didn't know that they could until my son started getting a rash and he never had one until a month ago. I looked up symptoms of teething and it is a symptom.

Well, there you go. I've not excerienced it myself with my 2 boys and haven't heard of it happening, but just goes to show... it does happen.

Perhaps it's because of the excess saliva. Interesting. Thanks, Jamie for sharing that.

Your welcome. I was concerned about it because he had never had a rash before then and I was surprised when I looked it up and seen that it can happen. I don't think its common but it does happen.

Some kids do get a rash when they are teething, but it also has to do with not changing their diapers often enough or eating acidic foods.

I've never known of teething to cause nappy rash. Sometimes it's something they eat. My son (10 months) has just had a bout of nappy rash and I've come to realise that he's sensitive to tomatoes. His nappy rash happened almost instantly, which happens with very acidic bowel motions. Greasy foods can cause this too.

The longer a babies bottom sits in excrement the more likely they will have nappy rash. It's good practice to change (or at least look) a nappy every 2-3 hours. If treated quickly, nappy rash usually clears up in a day or two. In the case of a really bad rash, it can take longer.
