i've also heard that vit d can help with seasonal depression, so it couldn't really hurt to try. i have been clinically depressed on and off for years now and also suffered from ppd, when I went off my pills, I started taking st johns wort, and it works (and helps me sleep better, i have anxiety problems as well) it is safe to take while preg and breastfeeding.

I know that Vitamin D can help with depression based on seasonal affective disorder. So, if postnatal depression is due to never leaving the house and seeing the sun, it would probably help. After my daughter was born I had a severe Vitamin D deficiency, so I take a daily supplement. I also have clinical depression, and I haven't found the Vitamin D has helped with the depression at all, but I'm sure my bloodwork looks better!
