I have a 3 week old who just recently has started fussing and shaking his head during bottle feeding. He doesn't do it during every feed, but when he does it takes about an hour for him to finish 4 ounces. I was breast/bottle feeding for the first 2 weeks, and started only bottle feeding the third week. Does anybody know why he's doing this? It's a bit frustrating and I would really like to knwo if this is normal or if i should get him looked at.

my son did that too, try diffrent nipples and try change the water temperture, my son has to have his bottles warm and a playtex nipple or he's not happy.

Not sure if your bottlefeeding with breastmilk, but if your on formula, you may want to switch kinds. My daughter did the same thing before we switched her to hypoallergenic formula, its Similac Alliementum. Its for babies with soy and protein sensitivity. It made a huge difference! now she will chug down a 4 oz bottle in 5-10 minutes. Best of luck!

My son did that also when bottle feeding thou he was about 3 months. We found it was due to alot of wind and sometimes he just didnt want to have it all. We had to change teats and bottles.

Hi dont worry about it he is probably just a bit excited as he realises he it getting fed and they cant control they're head, so tend to fuss over it a bit.. dont worry it will pass just persist or remove bootle and try again a few minutes later.... also letting him smell the milk first or allowing a few drips on his mouth will tell him whats happening too... hope that helps :-)

My son did the same thing too. He actually did not want to latch on to my breast or a bottle. He would only eat like 2 ounces every 2-3 hours. Just continue to try and have patience. I would just say something to your doctor because I did and he just told me to let him eat what he wanted when he wanted. He will get hungry and he will start eating more with time. Good luck=)

I haven't tried different nipples but only because of the bottles we have. We are using the Playtex Ventair and you are only supposed to use the nipples that are specific to the bottle so they work properly. I know they have wider ones, im just worried about the bottle not working right with a different one.

have you tried different nipples? he may just not like the one you're using. my daughter was pretty fussy about her nipples. if the flow isn't just right it may throw him off. breast feeding is also so much slower...he may just need time to get used to it.
