I started my daughter at 4 months. We gave her brown rice cereal first just so she would get her tummy use to something new.....strained carrots are good for a beginner food. I mixed the rice cereal and carrots together......

I started both of my boys at 4 months of age. They were able to hold their heads steady by themselves at that point (had been for about a month before that). My youngest is now 7.5 months and is eating 2 jars of stage 2 foods at each sitting. If your infant isn't quite holding his/her head steady when sitting with support, wait. Also, if s/he pushes the food out instead of working it back to swallow, wait a week and try again. Each doctor will have their own guidelines as well, but follow your instincts. You know your baby best.
