For mom's who've had their membranes stripped...

[deleted account] ( 7 moms have responded )

How far along were you?

How dilated/effaced were you?

Did it work?

Did it hurt?

I had a stretch and sweep (the same thing as stripping the membranes except they also manually stretch your cervix at the same time) everytime I saw my midwife from 41 weeks until I delivered at 42 +3 (almost every day). It doesn't feel good ... well it hurts actually, but not that bad. Being super overdue is definetly worse : ) Over the days I went from 1 to 2-3cm

It didn't work for me. I eventually agreed to be induced and ended up with a c-section after 12 hours of active labour and only 1 more cm of dilation.

They did mine while i was in labor with my second child.. it was just like them checking you.. it did help i feel.. i was also induced with her due to low fluid and a birth defect.. but it made things short and sweet.. but only you can decide whats best for your body..

I had it done at 38.5 and then 39.5 weeks. It was uncomfortable for about 30 seconds (and I don't have a very high pain tolerance! LOL) So if I can do it most others can too. The first time, I ended up losing my mucus plug and the second time about an hour later my water broke and I went into labor.

Good luck!

I was at 37 weeks. I had pre-eclampsia so my doctor decided to get stuff going and i was only 1 cm and not effaced and it was VERY painful! However i believe that if you are more dilated and or effaced it probably wont be as painful for you.

Midwife did mine at 40+2, and again at 41+1 for my first baby-didnt work either time im afraid. Its not painful-just a bit uncomfortable. As far as i was concerned once i was overdue anything was worth a go so i was happy to try it! Good luck if you have it done
