I agree with Lauren! It will break your heart to hear him scream but U have to stand firm. I had to do it eith my 3 yr old and it was not fun, she would only sleep in my arms on the couch and every time I would have to put her in bed she would wake up and we would fall asleep sitting up in the couch. Then I read and watch super nanny and I atarted doing it. I would put her to bed (screaming) and then in 5 minutes, go lay her back down Gooodnight and then u add 5 minute to each time. I won't lie to you it put me 3 hours the first night but then the next night it was only 1 hour and now I say BEDTIME and now we read a stories each night and I shut the door and the Sandman comes and she doesn't get out of bed unlest she has to go pee. At the time I thought it was HELL but now I'm glad that we have our beds and quiet time! I had done it with all my kids now( 3yr, 16months, 6 months). I hope that my story helped!!

Of course it all depends on the age of the child. But is sounds like he might be a little bit spoiled (every mother is guilty). Especially with the baby of the family :D! But you need to use some tough love because right now he's got you! He knows that all he has to do is cry or throw a fit, and oh mommy will take me back stairs and then he has won. Just put him in his bed and do the "super nanny" tell him good night, you love him close the door and walk out. Then as he gets up, just take him and put him back in bed. This may take several hours, and possibly even a few days. But then when he knows your not playing around anymore, he will finally go to bed in his room and maybe even on his own. Its neccesary :D
