I am 8 weeks pregnant and I am having a hard time sleeping. I am not sure if its the hormones that are effecting my sleep. I constanly wake up in the middle of the night for no apparent reason and its hard for me to go back down. Has anyone else had this problem once they became pregnant ?

I had no problem falling asleep but had a very difficult time staying asleep during my second pregnancy. I was usually up for at least 2 hours in the middle of every night. When I woke up in the middle of the night I would first try to fall back asleep, but if that didn't happen after about 10 minutes, I picked up a good book and started to read until I got tired. It lasted through my entire pregnancy but I just tried to go to bed a little earlier and checked out a lot of good books at the library. There is so much going on in the beginning of a pregnancy this could change with you and hopefully you'll be able to sleep better in the second trimester. Good luck!!

I'm 7 months now. and Yes i had the same problem. but i was having to go to the bathroom most of the time. which i still do all night long. there will be a time when you will be able to sleep. just remember you are still so very early. its just takes time for your body to get use to what is all going on in there. and once your body gets use to the baby growing you will be fine. things will start to be normal, just a different normal. hope that helps.....

Man, last night, I dreamed that a teenage girl broke into my house and was trying to sleep in my baby's room. I realised when I woke up this morning that the 'teenage girl' was actually my 3-mth baby daughter (or apparently what I think she'll look like when she's older)! The lying on the floor in just her t-shirt, kicking her legs in the air and grizzling was a bit of a clue! Heh, I'm not sure whether my subconscious thinks that she's growing up too fast, or too slow! Was a lot better than the other dream I had last night, where expressing breast milk involved letting these horrible big black spiders spin webs and cocoons all over my fridge *shudder* (guess who woke up engorged!)

Sounds like it's your first pregnancy. I am pregant for the second time and am sleeping a lot better this time than the first time. With your first, everything is different and it is all exciting and nervewracking and I would wake up just thinking ' oh my goodness I'm pregnant!' Just try to relax and not worry so much.

I had midnight wakings a the way through. When people say it's good preparation for being a parent, they aren't kidding: I deal pretty well now with night-time feedings and lack of sleep, but my husband still really struggles with it!
