Is it possible for a 2-3 mo baby to get bow-legged just by allowing him to stand up with your help?

My son is 2 1/2 months and he likes to pull himself up with my help and stand on his feet. I think that he is strengthing his legs, but I heard that he can get bow-legged by doing this. Is this true?

My MIL said the same thing to me!! Don't worry about it :) I say it's strengthening their legs, my son started walking before he was nine months old!

My son wanted to stand as soon as he could lift his head and he is fine. His leg are straight and he started walking at 9 1/2 months. Its just and old wives tale.

no, that's not true.... nearly all babies do that...If that garbage was true, you would see like 90% of all people walking around "bow-legged."

I did this with my daughter since she was very little. She is 1 today, walking and not bow-legged.

My doctor stood my daughter up to see how good she could move her legs. She is 2months old and she likes her right leg better than the left. She told me I could stand her up when I wanted as long she was comfortable standing. It helps improve their muscles.

No its not true !!! My daughter refused to sit for the 1st 4 months.....all she wanted to do was stand !! I asked my Dr. if I should be worried about bow legs and he said not to worry.
So if your son wants to stand let him....when he is tired he will let you know !

Your child will be fine. Besides, it's normal for children under the age of one years old to be somewhat "bow-legged".. Their bones are still growing and straitening out from being all tucked up in your womb.

I would just laugh at someone if they said I would cause this problem in my child. My son liked to stand, and still does, with help at that age. He's fine, so no worries! Besides, like you said, it's a good way to help strengthen his legs and not to mention he probably enjoys the little bit of independence and the together time with you! :D

P.S. don't worry i have never seen this happen to anyones baby yet.. All my friends have done it and i am sure our parents did it with us.. We are not bow-legged..

No that's not true. My in-laws told us that too cause my baby liked to stand when she was really young too and I asked my public health nurse and she just laughed about it. She said there was no way that you could cause your baby to be bowlegged.

I was doing that with my son at that age, he's 6 mo now and has real strong legs and no bowlegs at all.
