How long did it take you for your first cycle to come?

Lucky you!!!! my friend gave birth in november, she just got her first one. i had a baby feb 27 i got mine about 9 weeks afterwards -- i had a c-section 7 bleeding pretty much stopped after 3 weeks the right before the 6 wk check up it started again for about 4 days. then it started again about 8.5-9 weeks and that was really a 'period' -- long & painful for the first 2 days and heavy as hell and i've been getting them on monthly basis ever since. they're really heavy the first 2 days but then the other 3 they're not bad at all.

my doctor said it's normal to get them and to not get them -- they usually tell you that you don't get them if you're breastfeeding, supposed to be your body's natural defense. well, i pump and give and i've been having periods so go figure. it just depends on how soon after delivery your body is ready to start producing eggs again, and when you do get them, it's fairly normal for them to be irregular and vary in flow being that your body is 'out of practice' for so long, so it needs to get all the hormones back to normal. i hope this helps

and look at the bright side -- you don't go sleep deprived, exhausted from milk production & bleeding out on top of that :) in my case, i can barely stand up straight for almost a week and have to eat a pound of spinach & some liver to get myself back to normal. definitely enjoy it while it lasts!

my doc told me if a woman is breastfeeding you cycle might come around six months or later. i am partly breastfeeding and she was surprised that my cycle didn't come around 3 to 4 months. my baby is now 7 1/2 months and around six months i started and it only lasted 3 days. every woman is different. my sis-in-law's baby is 10 months and only breastfeeding and still no cycle. i wouldn't worry too much, it will come and you will curse it!

My son was born June 30, 2009 and I have been breastfeeding until the other day when I just stopped producing and I just started mine today. I asked my doc about it with my first son because I breastfed him for almost 9 months and never had a cycle. He said that most of the time while breastfeeding you will not have one. I was scared then as well as you are!!

I am breastfeeding my daughter, born March 14, 2009 and my cycle started in July. I breastfed my first daughter too and got my first cycle after about 4 months. It is not a predictable timeline and differs for each woman. Just remember that even though you have not had your menstrual cycle start again yet, you still have to use birth control because you can still get pregnant. Your cycle will restart even if you continue to breastfeed. Just enjoy it while it's gone.

Perfectly normal! I also had my boy in January and am breastfeeding. I haven't had my cycle either. I just had a regular check up last week and my doctor said it is different for every woman and some will not start again until they stop breastfeeding.

I breasfed our son and mine came back 8 months after birth even though I was still breastfeeding.

mine came back at week 9.

most women dont get a period while they are breastfeeding.
its nothing to worry about.
it just means that your fertility level is lower.

I am breastfeeding my son and he is 10 1/2 mths & I got my cycle after just a few mths and then it stopped after a couple of days, so I got really scared, but it started again after a few weeks and became regular after that. Really weird situation, but don't worry everything will straighten out.

I'm breastfeeding and had my son in June...started my first cycle on Sunday...very sad about it. My doc said it can take anywhere from 7-8months to come back when you're breastfeeding though

My son was born on Dec 9th and I breastfed for about 4 months and I had a period like clockwork while I was breastfeeding. Now that I am not breastfeeding, my cycle is all messed up. Always on the 9th of the month, I start then also again on the 22nd of each month. Needless to say, I am going to see my OB at the end of this month. So, everyone's body's different. Enjoy not having a cycle for now.

I breastfed my son, also born in Jan 2009, for about 3 months. My 1st cycle didn't come until the end of June...I was also a lil worried, esp since this is my first born. I even took a pregnancy test just to be certain! Everyone is different...I'm sure it will come. Enjoy it while it lasts! Lol.

My son was born a preemie so I was not able to breastfeed him and my cycle started right back up in a few months after I had him. I do know that some of my friends who have had breastfeed their childern, it toke them awhile for their cycle to get back to normal.
