Babies don't have to have a temp with an ear ache, but will with an infection. He could also be teething. It sounds silly but I have heard it to be true a few times. Also with some of my sisters kids!

Sounds like he might be getting an ear infection or teething. We have been through both. It is hard to tell which it is without going to the pediatrician which I would definately do. If he isn't running a fever the earache could just be coming on, so in all honesty just because he doesn't have it tomorrow when he goes to the doc doesn't mean it won't be there in the next couple of days. We went through that 3 times.

My son is almost 5 months and last month i took him into the ER because he had a temp and he was pulling on his ears. the doc on call said he had fluid but when i took him to his Ped she said the ER doc was wrong their was no fluid and it wouldn't have dried up in that short amount of time. She asked if he was pulling his ear or behind his ear? it was behind his ear she said there is a nerve back their that gets irritated when they are teething. So don't be surprised if that's what the Ped says tomorrow when you go. Good luck. and thanx to everyone else i didn't put together the sleepy ear pulling my son does do that too. :)

definently needs to go to doc anyway to find out what the deal is. probably an ear infection, they can cause some damage too like possibly needing tubes. get it checked out momma!

i am a first time mom and when my 2 month old son started doing that we brought him to the doctors to check to see if he had an ear infection. the doctor told us its just because he found his ear and he will play with it cuz it is something new he found. but at 6 months old i would bring him to the doctor!

My daughter did the same thing but when i went to the doctors he said that they do that sometimes when they are noticing their ears or it could be sinuses acting up..

Teething can cause pain in their ears, which will make them pull on them. Just make sure he doesnt have an infection, they dont have to have a fever to have an infection. If he does have an infection, Ive actually read that it usually goes away by itself, and its not all that necessary to use an antibiotic, so if I were you, and he had an ear infection, I would try to let it go away by itself, and just keep an eye on it, if it got worse, or wasnt going away, it would be good to get medicine then. Thats just what Ive read though, and if you or your doctor would rather treat it right away, then by all means, go ahead. If its just the teething, my doctor told me tylonol isnt going to hurt them, and when they are in alot of pain, a few days in a row is fine. If the tylonol doesnt do much, Motrin is supposed to work better, but it is an anti inflamatory, and isnt as gentle on their tummys, so its probobly best to avoid using it too much.

Ear pulling and scratching is a tired sign, if it comes about 20 minutes before yawning or eye rubbing then that's your answer.

It can also mean an ear infection, he can have an infection without having a temp.

I would would make that trip to the doctor but it could also be an allergy thing, his ears could just itch! They can give babies zytrec now for allergies if that is the problem.

It could possibly be an ear infection even though he doesn't have a temp. You really need to get him to the Dr because it could possibly get even worse.

My daughter does this when she is tired. She also did it when she was teething. If he isn't upset, grumpy, not sleeping or no temp he prob isn't ill. Hope everything goes ok at the doctors and hope nothing is wrong.

Quoting Nikki:

I would take hime to the dr asap,he may have something lodged in his ear, or an ear infection. You need to see a doctor to make sure there is nothing wrong, because their little eardrums are so delicate. Hope he gets better soon
