You will find that most babies will gets colds. Its not nice for us mother's to have to watch but there are a few things we can do to help our little ones.

1st make sure he/she can breathe properly. If airways seem obstructed by mucus you can use a suction bulb and suction the mucus from the nose. You can also use saline drops (please apeak to your GP before giving any medicine to your child).

2nd You can raise his/her head while sleeping by placing a wedge pillow under the head and back to support baby.

3rd Get a humidifier.

4th Keep a check on little ones temperature every 15 minutes. If temp is above 37.4 degrees C then help cool baby down by taking a layer of clothing off. If temp is above 39 degreec C please take baby to see the GP or even take baby to children A & E because babies can not regulate thier own body tempurature and once it reaches above 39, the risk of convulsions/fits is sometimes likely and has to be dealt with promptly.

If your child is at home and has a febrile convulsion (baby strats shaking and eyes may rols back, baby also may seem very sleepy) put baby on his/her side to help clear the airways from the tongue falling back. Make sure baby is safe on a flat surface and is not likely to role off anything like the bed/sofa and Call 999/911 straight away.

5th If your taking baby outside and its chilly make sure to put a hat on him/her to keep them from loosing heat from the head.

6th Make sure baby gets plenty water to drink. This is vital for replacing lost fluids and stopping baby from dehydrating.

7th Give lots of cuddles and if you have to, let baby sleep on your shoulder in the day. I found this was the only position that helps my daughter breathe when she has a cold.

I hope this helps Christine :) and try not ro worry too much because as I said most babies will get a cold or two in thier young lives its a fact of life and a way in which they build up thier immunities. Good luck and If you are very worried about little one....please speak to a medical professional.
