a baby that sleeps well during the day will sleep well at night at 4 months old your baby needs about 4 hours and 45 minutes of sleep during the day that should be broken down to two, two hour sleeps and one 45 minute sleep. try and get him into a routine during the day, this is what i do for my son that works wonders!

7am bottle
9am sleep until next bottle
11am bottle
1pm sleep until next bottle
3pm bottle
4:30 nap until 5:15pm
6:30pm bottle
7pm bed

he will sleep up until 4-5am only because he's hungry but after 20minutes he's back to sleep. each sleep time wrap tightly and for the nap time go for a walk in the pram or a drive in the car, after 5:15pm start the night time routine bath, massage then bottle and bed.

My friend has twins who are on this same routine and she has her boys now sleeping from 7pm till 7am with no bottle in between but she's been doing the routine for a bit longer than me so that is the aim from 7 to 7.

good luck

my son is the same age and he will go to bed at 9pm and wont wake up until 9 am or even later than that. He has been eating stage one baby food for about a month now. Before he goes to bed he gets on container of baby food with some baby cearel in it. Then when he is finished with that he gets some formula with cereal in it also. he only drinks about 2-3oz of formula after eating. but my son is growing very fast in lenght and in weight. maybe this will help you too..

Does your son have any sort of night time routine? For my baby girl, I have tried my best to always do the same things. One nap around 5pm, then one last chance to play, eat, or just change the diaper. Around 8 or 9 pm, I start with brushing her gums (so she starts to get use to it), rub calming lotion all over, change into pj's, read her a story with one last feeding and she's out. Just make sure that their diaper is clean right before so there is no reason for them to wake up. For your son, I would maybe get the 7pm nap to be a little earlier like at 5pm so then if he wakes up you can have a little more time to tire him out. Then just start you own routine so then he starts to know hey this is bedtime and it's time to go to sleep. I also always have a night light and soft lights right before bed. When he does wake up in the middle of the night, don't be too quick to get him. Sometimes they do need to soothe themselves. If it's just whinning then just leave them. If it sounds like almost purple in the face crying then go and soothe them. I would start with rubbing their belly or maybe humming very low. If not then pick him up. Just make sure to give him a chance to do it himself. I'm sure that you will do great and remember to have patience!
