Our 11 month old son wakes multiple times during the night when sleeping in his pack n play. We do our best to make the area/room he is sleepin in mimic home life. We travel with his sound machine, etc. This past trip I draped blankets around it so it would create a darker environment. And still my boy woke multiple times. I know it could just be a "different" place, etc. but does anyone have any advice to offer on how to help him sleep better when we are away from home?

Thanks ladies. I think we are going to set it up in his room for a bit before we go away next time and also try giving him a shirt from one of us. I'd love to let him nap in it occasionally...but the dear boy doesn't take naps and never really has. I really hope that changes soon. That is a whole different can of worms.

My son used to be terrible at sleeping when we would travel. He was close to 8 or 9 months by time we bought a pack n play. What I did to get him used to it was put it up in the play area. He could play around it/ in it. It was more to just get him use to it. I also would put it up in his room and have him do naps in it, so he would get use to sleeping in it in his natural environment. I too did the blanket thing (I thing that helps). The next time we travel it was like night and day.

Actually and I know this going to sound really weird and it is quite funny. I have a 5 year old son and a 17 month old daughter. When my son was little he had to have one of my husbands dirty shirts to sleep with or he wouldn't sleep. My daughter is now doing the same thing, and she's been doing it longer than what he did. Every night it's the same routine even when we're in Oklahoma visiting my dad and grandparents. When it's bedtime we put the kids to bed, but the only one allowed to tuck them in is daddy. They only let daddy tuck them in, and as long as my daughter has his shirt she sleeps just fine. It's so cute.

ok, this might sound crazy, but maybe you could put the pack n play sheet in your bed for a few nights before you go away- that way it will smell like you when he sleeps on it (also something I've done with my son's transitional object, which we always take with us when we travel). good luck!
