Has anyone been pregnant while breastfeeding? Any advice or suggestions? I have a 6 month old and I want to get pregnant again. My daughter does not like formula so I want to continue breastfeeding. I haven't done it before so I don't know what to do.

Hi, I was poking around Circle of Moms and just saw this message, so I'm not sure if this reply is too late.
Here's a weblink worth checking out, which talks about breastfeeding during a pregnancy. It's a Question & Answer page, and the answer contributed by the ObGyn is rather detailed as well. Hope it helps.

i fell pregant while breastfeeding and on the mini pill so it does happen. my son turns 1 in feb2010 and my second is due march 6th. my son starting to bite the nipple at 4mths (yes he had teeth) but have been told that getting pregnant changes the taste etc of breastmilk so he is now on formula and solids. i expressed breast milk for him until he was 6mths then it started to disapear and i was getting to tired from feeding him, playing, putting to sleep then expressing, washing etc so i had to stop that and sleep when he was sleeping too. GOOD LUCK!!!!

i brest fed my first up untill my eighth month of my pregancey with my second and found that i had to drink alot more fluids to keep the milk supply up other than that i had no problems and if you cut back your feeding when you introduce solids then it will cut down your milk supply as well i would suggest pumping as if you wore still feeding and freeze it untill you need it i used to pump after every feeding just to keep my milk reproducing as much as possible my daughter used to kick my son when he would eat which at times was a little painfull but great memories

I think if your supply is good right now then you should be okay. It will just increase when you give birth to feed baby number two as well. If you are concerned, you can start feeding your baby solids and breast feed by night until baby can take cow's milk

My milk supply has not been good with my first 3 kids so I was taking fenugreek which I can not take while pregnant. I am worried my milk will dry up when I get pregnant. Is your supply good?

I am currently breastfeeding my 11 month old and I'm 3 months pregnant. We haven't had any problems so far. I have read that sometime children will stop breastfeeding when you are pregnant because the hormones change the taste of your milk so that is something you may have to consider. My son has only had formula a few times when I had to go into the hospital and that was awhile ago and he doesn't take a sippy cup of cow's milk yet since he's not 12 months so I don't think he even really knows there's another option besides breast milk.
