Pumping

Does anyone just pump? I breast fed at the hospital, but when I got home she wouldn't latch. I started pumping, and have been for the last 3 1/2 weeks. I get about 7-9 oz every time I pump every four hours, and my little one only eats 4 oz every 3 hours or so...meaning I have a freezer full of breastmilk. I called the hospitals around to see if they take donations, but none of them do. Is anyone else having this issue? I don't want to throw the milk away, but I don't want to overflow my freezer either. The whole freezer door is breast milk. I know she will start eating more sooner than later, but what the heck am I supposed to do now?

Why not try to see if she will latch now? It may not work but just try it a few times and she may get the idea as time goes on? Then you could combine breast and bottle until you have used all your frozen stuff up and then go totally to breast. It took our son about 5 days to learn to latch. Maybe contact a lactation consultant or the hospital and ask for some advice about what the chances of success of this are.

I had the same problem as Tabatha. I only lasted 5 weeks. I had high hopes for breastfeeding, but got off to the wrong foot when my milk came in. My daughter wouldn't latch properly and we had one wet mess when we tried. I hated to give it up, but I couldn't keep up with her once she started drinking 4 ounces, so I had to stop.

So we bought another freezer and I have a good month and a half frozen milk to last. My daughter is 3 1/2 months old. I am so sick of pumping, but I know it is the best thing for her. How long are you guys planning to pump? I am still doing it about 3-4 times a day. I am getting about 10-12 oz each time, so I have plenty to keep her belly full, and plenty to freeze. I am just not sure how much longer I can do it! I am torn, please help with advice. I know that it is the best for her, it's free, but if I have a good month and a half frozen to put her to 6 months, what should I do?!?!

We ended up buying another freezer :) not sure that helps you... but for me just knowing I have a freezer full of extra milk for backup is good. One word of advice I have heard is to store your milk in the back of your freezer. If you have it in the door then there is going to be temperature variation (every time you open) and a chance then your milk could go bad. Good Luck! :)

realistically think of how long you want to breastfeed for? if its not that long breastmilk in the freezer lasts a few months 3 if i remember correctly. so realistically you could stop pumping let your milk dry up and use what you have stored in the freezer. also look online to see where there is a milk bank if you still want to donate it. good luck. I wish I made that much milk. LOL

I did just pump with my first son and also with my second. They both couldn't latch on but I guess it didn't help that my nipples are flat or inverted. I lasted 4months pumping with my first and only 1 month with my second. Just be careful of infections I had a total of 4 and it was horrible!!!!!! When you store your milk only store in 1 ounce baggies. I would fill up an entire bag and only use a few ounces and have to throw the rest out. Wow, I learned so much with my first but don't we all!

wow luck :"D i breastfeed in hospital too then when i got home my boy would not take it!!! so i pumped and pumped i felt like a milking cow :) i would only get 4oz after 1 hr of pumping :S so i would give him what i could and then topped him up with formula!! by the time he was 6 weeks i was lucky if i could get 1 oz in an hour :(

have you tryed "nipple sheilds" ????? they make you nipple fell like a bottle nipple! she might be nipple confused!! and about the breastmilk in the freezer..............umm she got the first bit in hospital whitch is the best! so i would keep some and just rotate it! sorry iam not much help on this one :( but keep it up girl, i wish i could have breastfeed longer :D
